Resonated vs open Midpipe

I want to buy a midpipe and want the flow advantages of an open 3 inch midpipe since im going non sequential and want to relieve as much backpressure as I can in the hopes of lessening any potential for excessive lag.

but Also i want to keep the tone resonable. does a resonated midpipe restrict flow noticably? how much would it hinder the flow?

I have a resonated midpipe from RX7store. It obviously flows a lot better than the stock or even a hi flow cat. A straight midpipe would be much louder than any other option. Boost control is also a huge issue with open exhausts. Do a search and you'll find lots of discussions on this topic.

Go with the resonated midpipe---you want one with a magnaflow muffler in it like rx7store sells. The glasspack type res midpipes are crap, they don't muffle well and they blow out quickly. My magnaflow res mp is straight through, and I am pretty damn positive that I am losing minimal power with it vs a straight mp. I have went back and forth over the years and the res midpipe is the way to go----lots of power, noise when you want it (at wide open throttle) and not insanely loud at idle and around town driving.

Go with the resonated mp. I installed a hi flow last week to pass smog and my cars is a lot quieter with the resonated midpipe than with the hi flow.

Also running rb duals with M2 dp, and straight GothamRacing mp. Its perfect, nice tone around town, while cruising , etc. When you hit 4.5krpm it turns into an indycar

I too am running the Racing Beat Dual with the RX-7Store resonated mid-pipe and I like the way it sounds. As was stated above, the resonated pipe from the RX-7 Store is straight through and I doubt that you lose much flow at all.

Yep, I feel the same way. I'm currently waiting to install a mettalic cat on mine, but currently its not obnoxious with the RB dual tip. You can definately hear the car coming most times, but around 2.6k rpm, or cruising just a bit below 3k rpm with light throttle, I can keep the car virtually silent. In my experience (and the guys over at RP performance), its really not as loud as one would think, with a ported motor and straight exhaust. In my experience, I'd say the cat-back is more important for noise control, followed closely by the mid section.

Well, I think think that running an RB dual w/ a midpipe is probably about the same as running a higher-flowing catback with a resonated pipe. You're talking a minimal increase in backpressure either way.

I have the old school RB single tip with a single turbo. Before the turbo conversion, I was using a straight midpipe, which worked "okay" although it was still a bit loud. After converting to single, it was unacceptable for city driving, but with the RX-7 store resonated midpipe, it's perfect IMHO.

Go resonated. The power difference is negligible, but the noise difference is fairly significant. I agree that the Magnaflow mufflers (like the one in the RX-7 Store piece) are a good choice.

I don't think a resonated mp is going to do anything for smell. My resonated MP stinks horribly. Smell can't be a factor when going with a midpipe.

They're both straight pipes. How can there be a difference in smell

My resonated midpipe stinks just like the unresonated one I had. There is no difference in smell.

Use Magnaflow when you get a resonator, as stated before. It is probably the best flowing muffler that you can buy due to their straight through design. They dont have the cheese grater perforation that Glasspacks do, so they actually flow better than them, last longer, and sound better. I use one, along with a custom bent catback with a Magnaflow, so I essentially have a 3" turbo back exhaust without ANY obstructions.
