Replace the whole clutch set up or just the disc?

Hey guys I am at a crossroad. I am running a ACT hd presure plate with a 6 puck sprung disc. The disc last time I checked was getting pretty low. The clutch pressure is great just the disc doesnt feel like its holding much and possible making grinding noises(crossing fingers poor m2 flywheel).

Will it be best to replace the disc along with the bearing . Or buy a complete new clutch system.

Any input will be greatly appreciated along with your personal experiance with new disc on used pressure plates.

Since you have everything open, just replace the whole setup.

Well its no biggie I have a lift and I can do the job in under 3 hrs ,Timed!LOL

But as of now the race season for me has died down till spring and I am only dailying the car now.
My issue is a disc can be bought new for $130 wich is what I need. I have a new bearing along with a pilot bearing. The pp is superb. Does it justify in buying a $595 new clutch?

Have you re-used your pressure plate before?

IMO disc is fine if PP is working properly and isn't heat scored.

Yeah last time I removed the tranny the surface on the pressure plate and flywheel where superb. But the disc was way too thin and I should of just ordered a new disc then and wait the 5-7 days of shipping but like everything rotary we push things aside and have faith. Well now I am about to do something that will require me to drop the tranny and a extra 10 minutes wont hurt by slapping a new disc.

So basicalyy if the pressure plate is holding great and the clutch feel is great all I need is a new disc and I am good.

I agree with gracer. If the PP is fine why not just buy a new disc. If it is a 3 hour job for you to change the clutch, and you dont mind doing it again if it doesn't work out right; whats the big deal to do it again.

I put in a ACT SS disc with a HD PP last year with my rebuild. I don't track my car but drive it kinda hard and made about 6 passes at the quarter mile and and it started slipping on the dyno after 12k-14k miles. When I dropped the tranny the PP and FW were in great shape and have caused me no problems with the new sprung 6 puck in the past few thousand miles. You should get many more miles out of your PP than the clutch disc. If there is no obvious heat damage I would definitely save the money and just get a new disc.
