Just a follow up on this story, I managed to get the nest out with no problems (largely thanks to all the advice I got here), and I found the leaks! Turned out fuel was leaking from both primary injectors as well as the FPD and from the fuel line-FPD connection (clamp was loose, now tightened). Here's a video for anyone interested, you'll have to forgive the quality, but you can see the primary rail getting wet as the system is pressurized (listen for the beeping). You cant see the FPD leak as well, but was leaving a pretty nice sized pool of gas on the intake manifold.

LagunaFC-- Look at the fuel rails in the pics above. This will be a good time for you to upgrade to those and run braided fuel lines with an after market FPR that has a pd built in. Then you never have to worry about fuel.

I have to admit that setup looks pretty failproof. I was doing some research and found a thread on rotarycarclub.com. I can't see the pics, but I'm assuming that this is the system you got? If you don't mind my asking, what was the final cost? It's something I'm very interested in since I don't ever want to have to do this again (Though I know I will ;)).

The Aeromotive FPR was around 150, the custom fuel rail fittings were about 50 each.
Don't remember the cost of the fuel line and fittings. But a fail proof setup for about what it would coast to go stock thru mazda. |

My car is nearly stock, still running twins and my upgraded fuel system was probally around the same cost as getting it all new from mazda! This way my PD and FPR have been moved to the driver side away from the exhaust/motor and has all Stainless Steel lines that have fittings instead of rubber hose that can fail and clamps that just help to tear the rubber.
Again this IMO was the best setup for myself and I now never have to worry about a fuel leak where I would always be thinking about that if I stayed stock. My FD has 38K miles and mostly stock, but now it will be reliable. What would the cost be for those of us without fabrication equipment or skills? :) |

I took the rails off the manifold today and took another video of the leak. The cover over the injectors is removed so it looks worse than it is now, but it turns out that the damper isn't actually leaking (not that it really matters, I've already bought a whole o-ring set and damper so I'm replacing everything anyway). Anyway here's the better video for those interested:
