Redline is on its way!!!
just ordered some Redline MT-90 for my trans. and some 75W90 for my diff. since none of the autoparts stores around here carry either of those... but oh well, gonna have a bushing or my toe-links replaced next week (going to see the mechanic this afternoon for a definitive opinion, a.k.a. other than me :D) so i'll probably have him do that for me too... and maybe change out my brake fluid also
just thought i'd share... will post MY testimonial as to the beauty of Redline ASAP |
Good luck. I saw zero difference in either of my cars differentials and gearboxes.

i remember reading that one, BUT i tend to lean towards thinking there are a few exceptions to every rule. there are two negatives there and many other positives elsewhere around here. its been in there for 12 years now though, its needs changed, if its worse, i'll change it again :D if i listened to ever individual negative stated on this board and took it as a broad sweeping "truth" i'd never have bought my RX :D fortunately i did and haven't had 99.2% of the issues discussed on the forum
appreciate it though... as i said, when its in, i'll give my report so people can have a bit more info to run through before deciding themselves what they should do. |
OK, but let me ask you this. Something wrong with regular transmission fluid? It's what Mazda put in and recommends for their car, you know? :)
|
Well if that fluid happens to be 10+ years old I would have to say the Redline will make a noticable difference. Even if you cant tell the difference, it piece of mind knowing you have some of the best fluid in the world protecting your inner workings.
Personally, I didn't notice any difference when I changed the fluid. I feel better now though knowing I have Redline in there and not 10 year old mazda fluid. |
Be sure to keep your testimonials in this threas since I just subscribed to it.

md performance has a whole case in their showroom, i made them order me some last week and the smallest quantity they could get was a case... you near gaithersburg?

i used the mt 90 cause i heard it was good. i will be suprised if i notice any difference though

Should be MTL 75w-90 for trans and MT-90 for diff. My diff fluid was thick as mud. I wasted a lil bit of good stuff to drain out the last of it again after it was empty. It should be changed every two years but it's allways neglectated. At that interval, the price of synthetic is more then worth it.

Personally I feel my car shifts better after changing it to Redline about 5k ago. But my old stuff was the color of swamp water (probably original)and I too wanted to go with a synthetic. Of course, I don't track the car and rarely shift fast enough to run into the issues CLAYNE mentions. yes, based on the people i have talked to, i do feel better having redline vs. alot of other brands in it. i don't trust a few of the companies out there because of experiences i or my friends have had with them... Castrol is the worst offender. i don't expect a different physical performance, maybe a little smoother just because it is new oil but otherwise... oh well. i'll post in here when i get it in :D

redline is okay
you should try "Neo" synthetics mazdatrix sells them....all i have to say is wow |

U buy their stuff so they make more $$$$ ( hopefully to help cover the lost in the FD). They make it just good enough so that after so many miles something is bound to fail and u by another OEM part(s). Redline is not a placebo oil. It really works. U should try it before u knock it. |

i didn't really mean to spark this kind of debate.
speedking, i know its stupid, but well, i'm an overly cautious fellow. if i here lots of good things about a product (granted there are a few bad here and there) i feel better using it on my baby than using something that i've heard nothing about at all. i realize that valvoline etc. probably work just as well, but its that word "probably" that scares me. why not spend a few extra dollars for something i know works well vs. something that probably? my fiancee probably would have been happy with a tiny diamond chip in a white gold band... but, i knew should would be happy with the one i got her... lots of diamonds and platinum... you see my point? |

I don't know why you bring OEM parts into the conversation, but I'll ask, something wrong with that? In my experience, and IMO, most of the time, OEM parts are built, fit, and engineered better. Try an aftermarket hood or suspension bushings, and see which fits worse or squeaks more, OEM or aftermarket? Anyway, I never referred to Redline as being "placebo oil". I made reference to "bee" using Redline oil and it making him feel better, and I asked that if he used regular transmission oil, would it give him the same peace of mind? And BTW, I've used Redline MT-90 and 75W90 gear oil in my other cars, and I feel that they're overrated. They don't do anything that regular transmission and gear oil doesn't do, and it costs more to use. Long-term, it's throwing money away.
U don't change Redline that often in the tranny. Most people don't even change regular gear/tranny oil that often. The benefits of using Redline exceeds it's costs. I have even heard people tell me that when they use Redline, there were less incidents of breaking the 5th gear synchros due to speed shifting on regular oil. That alone justifies the costs. |

How can u provide evidence for smoother shifting than via ur hand?
Are there any T&M device that tests for this? |
You're the making the blanket statements, not me. I have no burden of proof, only sharing my experience.
"The benefits of redline exceeds the costs"? How am I supposed to measure that kind of nonsense? You should stick to playing with your startubes. [edit for spelling] U should stick to playing with ur startubes. Dave |
i rather screw in a buttplug
