Red Interior
Red Interior
Hi i think this has been posted before but i'd appreciate it if someone could help me out. Which trims have red interiors? What colors have red interiors? What's the difference between the different years in the red interiors? Thanks in advance..
I don't think any of the U.S. spec 3rd gens have red interior. However, I believe the new RZ in Japan has a red trim interior. The stitchings, the Recaro seat, and various parts are red. I could be wrong, but this is what i've heard.
The very first FD I ever sat in was a silver auto with red interior. The silver is nice, but the red was out of control. I remember being really turned off with the interior. Red is not my color for interiors. It also had a chrome shifter plate that really closed the deal. I went to test drive that car but when the dealer went to start the car up for me he couldn't get it started on the first turn. Once he did start the engine there was a huge cloud of smoke that prevented me from seeing the car from behind. I went for a spin but as soon as I left the dealerhip it stalled in the street directly in front of the dealership. I had to start it three more times to pull it back into the dealership. So, the moral of the story is that red interiors are good in stage coaches but not FDs.
oh COME ON,
so you found an FD with a fucked up engine... gasp!
it doesnt have anything to do with the frickin interior!!
Red interiors are great if clean, but I think they're
alot easier to look cruddy, and when they get grimy, they
look really bad. But when clean, they look really cool!
Forget who it was, but someone with a silver/red posted
a whole bunch of pics, it looked awsome, but I have
a feeling he got it detailed right before he took the pics, heh.

Just the old '99 RZ had the special red interior as standard. Most every other RZ had black interiors on them. For the US, the red interior was most prevalent on the silver touring models as an option(silver/black or silver/red being the choices). Only the '93's had the red colored door panels along with other '93 only red-colored pieces(more black was added for all cars subsequent years). Both white and black cars have been known to have added it in(~$1000 optional upgrade to leaher seats) and dealers could've special ordered it even though it wasn't listed as an option for certain colors.

I have a '93 black with red interior, I have since taken out the red and installed black. I liked the seats and even left them in for quite a while with black interior (until I bought R1 seats). Some really like the red and most others hate it. I just got tired of mine after 2 years. It is a b*tch to keep clean, but looks nice when clean. It really stands out on silver FD's.

I have also heard that either in '94 or '95 they switched from red to black door panels, and from black to red carpet. anyone know anything about this? I have black carpet.

Doesn't everyone know that any red interior FD has a bad motor?
Question: Does anyone know if the wrinkled finish on the dash panels was mazda's cure for the flaking Satin Finnish for late model FD's? I saw a few FDs at SS4 that had this finish and thought that it must have been a bad aftermarket parts job, but if this is factory, WTF. There is no way that this was a solution. It reminds me of the interiors found in fiberglass kit cars, cheap and way to truck bed liner.

yada yada
Yea..thats right. There was a post from mazda about the red interior emiting a toxic chemical that seeped into the engine bay and eroded the seals/piping/hoses and even made the trottle body rust.
Apparently the cows that where killed for the leather came from chernobyl!!!
When they switch to other cows they had the same problem b/c they had been raised on food color RED #2.
They finally gave up and went back to black cows.

For '94-on cars, Mazda then changed to that ugly, wrinkled finish which will also never flake.
