Rear brake caliper rebuild question

What is the process for taking out the adjuster spindle in the bore section of the rear caliper? It is part number 11 in the factory service manual. Picture

So I figured that out. They just pull out. I was apprehensive because I didn't want to damage anything but they came out just fine.

I have a bigger problem though. I wanted to rebuild my calipers because I want to powder coat them. Well I haven't looked in a while and it seems the rebuild kit/parts are no longer available. Does anyone have any idea if they are out there anywhere?

In for answers as I'm considering doing the same.

When you say rebuild kit what exactly do you need ??? Normally I would just check to make sure all hard parts are cleaned and usable then replace all the worn out seals which are available online thru Atkins and mazdatrix I think even parts geek and rock auto carries them . But mazdatrix also offers a rebuild service if worst come to worst they may even have some hard parts available .

Is no longer available via mazdatrix. I'll check atkins, parts geek and rock auto. My local mazda dealer couldn't come up with them but I'll call ray crowe tomorrow. I need need the seals, boots, snap rings and o-rings. I want to powder coat my calipers so i want to rebuild instead of buying refurbished ones.

Nice, atkins has most of it in stock. Just a couple things that I think I can get from the dealer.

Rock auto seemed to be the least expensive route. Just under $50 shipped. I ordered what they had and will get back with what also is necessary from the dealer to complete the rebuild. For example, the bearings for the ebrake piston are not included in any set I've seen but I know they are available through Mazda.

Interesting that mazdatrix doesn't carry the kit anymore. I rebuilt mine only two years ago and they were in stock. They've always been my go to parts supplier in lieu of Ray.

This is kindaofa big deal since there's really no aftermarket alternative for the rear calipers

Sakebomb has a set of upgraded rear calipers. Just need the coin.

Sakebomb's kit is a bracket for the stock calipers to fit a larger rotor. In my case, I want to be able to run stock 16s with slicks for drag days. Want to keep rears stock.

Yup you're right. Forgot they're just brackets.

For the record it appears that the OEM rear caliper rebuild kit part number is FDY 1-26-46Z. This is for the FD3s RX7 with 17" wheels ('99+ RS/RZ/SR etc.) but I understand it's the same PN for the 16" wheel caliper (RB, Type R, etc.).
Front caliper (for 17" wheel) rebuild kit part number is F1Z4-33-26Z.
Enjoy.
