I was wondering if anyone else had this problem...

My car drives fine usually. But, the instant it starts to rain and only when it rains, the car has a bad sputtering problem. It doesn't want to go, it just kind of putt putt putts like it's cold...though I know it isn't cold. Kind of acts like it wants to shut off even though it doesn't. I know that's not very clear but I'm hoping someone might have had a similar problem and could shed some light on what it could be.

Like I said, the weirdest part is that it only does this when it's raining. It will start immediately when even the lightest rain falls and quit as soon as I drive out of the rain.

Any clue?

Does it do this after washing the car?

You could try idling the car and spraying water onto the hood. There's a possibility that an electrical issue is coming to the surface when it rains due to improper or blocked hood drainage (such as it getting on the igniter somehow). If that's not the case, it's something that is humidity based like cracked plug wiring.

You'll see a common trend in those referenced Q/As with the ignition system being affected by moisture. I sa check your plug wiring first.

 

My thoughts exactly. Water is most likely to affect your ignition, and it'd do exactly what you say it's doing. Check your plugs, wires, etc for any showing wires or damaged insulation.

 

Hmm, I'll check that out. If it is a moisture or drainage problem, think there could be lasting effects?

 

Probably not. As long as everything is dry it works fine even now when the problem exists. So with the problem fixed it will all work as it does when it's dry.
