Radiator Fans...... Replacements for Stock
 

I am looking for recommendations on some aftermarket fans (slim) that would supply adequate cooling for my FD. What are you guys using? Also what size are the stockers? I know I may loose the 3 speed function.

This is has been discussed. Even if yours are broken, source another pair of stock fans.

You'd be surprised at how well the stockers functions even over aftermarket.

I'm using a single proform 14" fan because I can't mount my stock fans on my vmount.

Im using spal 11inch low profile fans.. they work well without the a/c
. At idle and the a/c on they dont supply enough. They are 844 cfm each.. im in the process of replacing those with their slightly bigger brother 14xx cfm each

The stock fans are better than 90% of the aftermarket stuff out there. You can use them with a V mount, just need to weld up some brackets to the radiator. If you really want aftermarket I've had good results with Maradyne fans. They make all sorts of sizes and are pretty powerful. you want over 1000cfm each.

I want to use a pair instead of one. Do you know what the maximum allowable size for each would be for the stock radiator?

Around 12" but it is really going to depend on the profile of the fans. I would ditch the stock radiator asap and get a stock replacement Fluidyne or Koyo. The problem with the stock cooling system isn't the fans. Its a combination of an undersized and failure prone radiator, poor airflow through the radiator due to too small of a bumper opening and air being blocked by the intercooler and radiator that sit on top of it, and too high of a fan turn on temperature.

I actually have a koyo radiator and have no cooling issues. My problem is that I have been through a few stock fans over the last couple years (motors go bad) and want to make a change.

Make sure the battery isn't leaking acid onto the driver's fan motor and that nothing is rubbing on them. Both will make them fail prematurely.

I agree with the above, rubbing definitely kills them quick.

Also, you mentioned you've been through a few sets, are you buying used or new? Used ones are all old now, so I wouldn't say stock fans are really unreliable, just all old. I'd see if I could get a new set of motors before doing anything else.

Been buying them used... never tried to source them new.

1000cfm wont be enough... get closer to 1500cfm each

So what do the stock fans flow cfm wise? Buddy of mine has a 1000hp TT viper who is finally ditching the stock big single fan that flows ~2600cfm. He making a shroud and dual spal 12" fans that flow ~1600 each.

When I was talking to him I realized everyone is big on cooling but you don't see alot of aftermarket fan ans shroud set ups.

A major reason why the stock fans work so well is the shroud. The shroud increases the fans efficiency and should be addressed anytime you are using aftermarket fans.

A lot of people are running the original fans still to this day (myself included) with no problems. The fact that you've "gone through several" seems to indicate a problem with your set up...perhaps the aforementioned 'rubbing' or perhaps an electrical current supply issue. I find it very...unusual...to have more than one fan fail repeatedly; it sounds like you've been losing PAIRS of them???
My point is, before you go spend time and money on an aftermarket fan or fans...you might want to check to make sure the wiring is up to snuff, you know?

And finally, check around in your area for a shop that repairs small electric motors. It may be you can find someone who'll repair a stock set of fan motors for you, if you decide to keep the stock set up.

the Original Fans have been quite great to me . in the miami heat , even when I had a big front mount blocking the radiator they still kept hte car cool .

I went through a few sets when I had a FMIC and it was popular to set the fan temps to engage at 85*C on the Power FC. Went through 3 sets like that b/c the fans were always running as they do with a FMIC in a warm climate like CA.

Now that I have a V Mount setup, the fans are programmed to engage somewhere in the 90* range.

85 turn on temp is too low. The fans will almost always be running in warm weather and when you try to bleed the coolant system it won't get hot enough and take forever. I like 89-90
