r1 strut bar STEEL OR SS
 
IS THE R1 STRUT BAR MADE OF SS OR REGULAR STEEL?

i just wanted to know if i polish will it rust

Put a magnet on it -- if it doesn't stick, it's stainless. Most (but not all) forms of stainless steel are non-magnetic.

I know it is not stainless.

Couldn't it be alum and the mounts are steel....

so polishing is a no no. then how do people get away w polishing the end bars

You can polish steel. It is called clear coat ;)

it could be aluminum. Magnet no sticky to AL

The strut bar is steel.

th whole point is not to use paint it chips when tightning and loosening bar alot

thats exactly what i was thinking i went to local chromer and he said if he did chrome it i would have to be careful tightening the bolt because it might crack plating .. u had no problems w this?

You could use flexible clear as used on paintable clearbras. Chroming would be much more chip/crackable.

The strut bar ends have no issue with chrome cracking. The nuts would crack if you use a 12 point socket or wrench on them. If you use a 6 point socket you'll be fine.

Chrome is much harder and stronger than any paint, if you paint the nuts they will definetly peel/chip/crack.

THANKS, I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE CHROMER. if u dont mind me asking how much did u pay he is charging me 80. and he says that cheap also,DID U CHROME UR BOLTS?

I had all the end parts chromed, the nuts, adjuster (only 93 R1s) and I had the stainless hiem joint polished. I forgot exactly how much it was, I had more things done at the same time.

$80 sounds good if they do a good job. My buddy had his done at a different local shop, his didn't look as good. Make sure they polish the steel well before they plate it.

yea they did polishing for e in th past... he did mention he hsa to polish it first....ill post pics n thread when done
