Quick Question

Does synthetic oil really damage rotary engines because my RX7 manual says that it does but my friends say that it doesn't.

Nope. At the time the car was created, synthetic oils were not at the same level as they are today. Synthetic is fine if that's what you want to use.

Either synthetic or regular oil will work fine. You still have to change your oil just as often as you would with regular oil. For more info, do a search for synthetic oil and you'll get a billion results on this very topic.
