1) the average person probably wont be able to tell what happened, other than to say that there is damage inside. Sometimes experience is required to determine condition, wear, and cause of damage.
2) many rebuilders wont accept a disassembled core, this can cause you a problem and add cost for you when it comes time to rebuild.
3) there's increased risk of damage to individual parts once disassembled while a whole shortblock can be moved around without fear of internal damage. This is the reason rebuilders generally dont like a disassembled core...that and the fact that some people would disassemble several of their own blown cores and "reassemble" one out of all the bad parts so they come out ahead, while the builder gets stuck with the bill.
