Engine mileage: 50k , no modifications.

wow dude, you've got too much time on your hands to document your plug life/performance. I run NGk race 105's and 115s at the track. Use a spark plug cleaner and some brake cleaner about every 1500miles. mine end up lookinng like the first thumbnail of the irridiums!

I've had them in for 4k miles so far, and the idle is fine. I think I'll keep them for at least 5k. I'd like to try the new RX-8 plugs, but not at $20 per plug.

What are feelings regarding the stock vs nonstock plugs?

I always thought it was "recommended" to use plat BUR7EQ leading, BUR9EQ trailing or 9s all around.

Are the br9eix the so-called racing plugs?

The iridiums, although expensive, are the way to go. Smooths-out the idle, always run clean.

JTurtonRX_7, how was your idle? Did you notice any change in mileage or performance?

Ive been doing a ton of stuff to get the idle right so I have no base line for determining if plugs changed anything.

I change my plugs every other oil change, those I posted went like 3 oil changes Oops.

Can anyone tell me anything by how my plugs look?

heh, dont have any pics, but mine dont even get a chance to get any build up on them...my new motor has 3500 miles on it and I lost count efter 10 sets. :(

I second what this guy said. Is it OK to use Iridiums as opposed to the stock BUR7EQ/BUR9EQ?

Anyone have any bad experience using no-stock plugs? I am concerned because of the difference in design. The Iridiums look like conventional plugs, not the kind I have been using in my 7 since day 1.

I've heard that the 'flat-face' design of stock plugs was to prevent against flooding in the FC. If that was their primary purpose, then it's redundant and unnecessary. My car has had the "regular-style" plugs for thousands of miles, hot-starts, cold-starts, and hasn't given me any trouble at all.

The BR*EIX electrode obviously holds up better than the BUR*EQ one, whether that's due to the difference in electrode design or material, the end result is that you will have less misfiring as the plugs age. The RX-8 uses a different plug design, it is closer to the BR*EIX plugs than to the OEM 86-95 BUR*EQ plugs. NOTE: the BR*EIX plugs are not designed for a rotary, so you will need not be able to install them without a thin-walled socket. I don't think this has been mentioned yet. You can buy one (from most rotary tuners who fabricate things, such as http://www.mazdatrix.com/toolmisc.htm ), or grind your own.

What happened to the last 2 pages of the Rx-8 plug discussion?

I don't remember which one is which here but one is trailing and one was leading. They were the stock plugs and had been ran for atleast 15k miles. They were on the car when i bought it. One of them was so old that the rod in the middle slid out! :eek:

I've been using Autolite plugs for the past 1300 miles or so, here are some photos. The equivalent NGK heat ranges should be 8 leading and 10 trailing. These plugs might be a little too cold for a stock motor, but the car idles fine.

The car had been sitting for about a week, and the front leading plug was wet with fuel. Can anyone tell me what would cause this? Leaky injector?

The electrodes seem to be wearing pretty quickly; an iridium electrode would be nice. I reinstalled these plugs, and am hoping to keep them for another 1000 miles or until the idle quality declines.

Can spark plugs cause the car to backfire almost like a gun shot and then stall the car?

Wow, your plugs looking terrible.
Mine looked like tookwiks plugs, i also had the same plugs, BUT some previous owner installed NGK BUR9EQP in trailing and leading, so no BUR7EQP has been installed.

My car wont start now, there´s a lot of fuel in the chambers. I will change plugs and cables now, lets see if something changes.

My car is stock, only aftermarket BLITZ exhaust.
And yes, how often do you change your plugs???? Every oilchange seems VERY often for me...
