Question Possible cause, blown engine?

My friend's '94 RX7 just kinda died. I say kinda because it still runs but has no power what so ever.

What happened to make a long story short is he's flyin at 170 MPH on the freeway in 4th and suddenly it just lost all power. Didn't die but just lost it all. He pulled over had it towed home. He thinks he blew an apex seal causing the no compression senario to kick in.

What does everyone think happened?

Get it compression tested to make sure that's the problem before doing anything else.

I know it happens to almost every thread here, and I am not usually one to preach about it- but 170 on the freeway? It is better off if the car is blown and off the road for a while- and others may live longer. I know- it can be done semi-responsibly, blah blah and- YES, I have hit upper 100's on the highway at various times of night, etc. with various cars over the years- BUT it may just be me mis reading- however "he's flyin at 170 MPH on the freeway in 4th" sounds a bit too big headed and ignorant for there to be any hope of safety here.

I don't believe it's possible with the stock gears. 5th gear most likely.

You need to have a compression test done first. After that, you really won't know what happened or caused it until you basically perform an engine "autospy".

People can guess and throw out suggestions but it won't do any good as they will only be guesses.

Did the car have any mods done to it? There is a hell of a load on an engine at that speed- ESPECIALLY a turbo motor- and if it is not tuned correctly, it will kill it without a doubt.
