Next survey: How many hours per week do you spend time on your FD (including thinking about it)!

I probably average around 4 hours a week, twice that in the spring/summer.

I picked up my FD when I was about 22 (27 now), although I wanted an FC and I saw this was somehow the same price (didn't realize it was the 25 year export tax thing) Luckily she hit 25 right when I was about to export it anyhow.
Took it to D.C. and now back to Japan. Nothing but smiles and occasional 25+ year old car shenanigans. Nothing I couldn't fix in a weekend though. This forum pretty much got me everything I could ever need to understand this car inside and out.

My brain says sell it but my heart can't handle how satisfying it is to drive. Twins are unique and hilarious to me and the grip is more than I ever intend to outgrow. Even if I do one day, I'll probably just pick up a track bike and tow it with the FD. :cool:

Currently 38 years old, bought my 93 automatic base in October of 2020. It was a single-owner car traded into a dealership in VA. Approximately 70,000 miles, bone stock, supposedly garage kept, tires dated 2006 when I took it off the lot. The exterior was in great shape, 93 plastic interior was what you'd expect - gummy! Otherwise the car ran and looked great.

This has been my first rotary experience, and my first "old" car experience. Prior to this my vehicles were a 2003 tahoe, 2014 silverado, 2018 Lexus LC500, and 2020 Supra, so this has been a lot different. I can say that I have definitely learned more about cars because of my RX-7 and have done more to this car than any other vehicle I have ever owned.

I have put 11,000 miles on it in the last 2.5 years and done numerous restorations and upgrades. I have learned a lot of mechanic skills because of this car and learned a lot about sourcing parts. I probably spend more time on eBay and Yahoo auctions Japan than I should. Its been a blast for the most part, with a lot of frustration and occasional cussing thrown in! Overall, I am very happy with my FD and enjoy owning and working on it.

What is the reaction when people see its an automatic?

Usually "Nice FD!", or something similar. Some will say that didn't know they made them in automatic and they typically ask questions about it.

There seems to be some real bargains on automatic in Japan.

Just curious how the feel of the rotary motor translates through the automatic.

Maybe it feels like a true turbine car?

It is very sluggish on the low end. Definitely a slush box. At 3000 RPMs it comes alive though. The HOLD feature is nice and allows you to stay in the gear of your choice. I do have a 4.77 ring and pinion I am waiting to install (stock is 3.90), so that should help a lot. I also have a level 10 Valve body upgrade (shift kit) and that has really improved the shifts. It shifts hard between 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd. I have never driven a MT FD. There just aren't many around here, so I can't really compare!

Interesting if you could emulate a paddle shifter. That would be a new ballgame.

I hear the auto cars are a great candidate for DSG conversions, since you need the auto trans engine to mate up easily.

Bought the car in Feb of I think 2000.

Fun car, then I started learning how to drive it with track days and autocross.

Stock is just too slow.

Things done to this car are too numerous to mention.

It now rides to events in a trailer, as it really is not a streetable car, though technically it could be.

Looks totally streetable if you take the front lip off.

Takes more than that. :)
Spring rates are 1200 lb front, 1000 lb rear
All Delrin Bushings.
Sits somewhat low.
BTW, that is not a lip, it is a full splitter. Without the splitter the bumper will get trashed.
No emissions, which is required here. I have a cat that I have fitted if I want to make it legal. Just haven't wanted to all that bad.
