that hood is such a piece of work. i have been looking at it for some time now, but was worried about the fitment. how is it? and..is that the fbg replica or the real deal?

one more question......do the blocking plates for the louvres attach to the hood itself, or do they like slide in or out w/o using some type of fastener?

looks good....they weren't lying when they said that there can be no strut bar with that hood..

Hi, the fitment is great and it is the fiberglass replica. The blockplates attach to the hood with some fasteners so it shouldn't be a problem. Also, I have the factory strut bar and the hood closes with no problems whatsoever. :)

R Xplicit 04-27-02 08:53 AM

cool! who/where was your source for the hoods? i have seen it on a few sites, but am worried about the shipping, as the guys that we get cf hoods from are shitty shippers...

-thanks

Nice hood, always loved it.

WhiteRXseven 04-27-02 11:55 AM

Sorry to say GUYS..

That hood is UGLY..
TO me the HOOD makes the RX7 look like a
Toyota Celica.. Sorry just my Opinion.

Only hood to go with a FD3 is a Mazdaspeed/replica..

i was lookin at one of the pics and I think that might be caused by his bumper sagging in the front a little bit.. if you look around the headlights you can see the gap increasing

JoeD 04-27-02 12:18 PM

does that gap between the hood and bumper count as an intake too??

and it doesnt look like the bumper is sagging. the gap between the bumper and headlights looks very small/normal.

HedgeHog 04-27-02 12:20 PM

I've been looking for that thing....haven't been able to grate my cheese for a while. ;)

Post pix when it's painted.

R Xplicit 04-27-02 12:29 PM

i like the fact that everyone has opinions, and freely share them...that is cool. but have you all noticed that every picture that is posted, whether it be a forum member's car, or even an unknown rx7, someone always talks shit about the gap at the front of the hood. or hey, your bumper is sagging. 99 out of 100 pics get this comment...well, guess what.....that gets old. you may not have noticed, but there is no hood latch installed. maybe there won't be, that is ok.......it just bugs me that everyone always says something about a gap here or there. well, none of these cars are perfect.....they all have imperfections.

sorry to bitch, that has just always bugged me....and by no means is this post intended for anyone in particular.....

Silex 04-27-02 01:09 PM

I can honestly say that the scoot cf hood is for sure my fave hood of all time. It's an amazingly beautiful piece of craftsmanship and definetially doesn't distract from the car. That's assuming that its a reeal dark color in the first place :P.

Zoomspeed 04-27-02 01:09 PM

I love that hood soooo much. Just looking at it gives me this squishy feeling inside.

I will be getting the hood latch this monday so it's not a problem.

RX7 RAGE 04-27-02 01:40 PM

I didn't have a hood latch when the hood was closed so that's why it's sligtly up. BTW my bumper is NOT sagging.

There is no gap between my headlights and bumper. It's perfectly fine.

oh yeah...i think your knockoff hood is ugly. well, i think the real Scoot hood is ugly too.

JUST MY OPINION!

also, why does it say "Scoot hood" in your sig and in the subject title, when in fact it is NOT a Scoot hood??

is there anything in my post saying the car sucks or is a piece of shit? did i insult anybody? no I didn't think so... all i said was it MIGHT be sagging a little bit so GO FUCK YOURSELVES maybe it's just the angle but the gap does increase... you guys are such a bunch of fucking assholes.... seriously...

jimlab 04-27-02 03:24 PM

The bumper isn't sagging, there's just an extraordinarly large gap at the front of the hood, which I'd expect from a knock-off part. And I'm going to have to agree with JoeD... that hood looks like freeze dried ass, especially on an otherwise stock appearing car.

RX7 RAGE, if you don't like my opinion, that's fine. You posted the pictures to show off, and you have to expect that some of the comments you'll get aren't going to be positive. That's life. If you have such thin skin that you can't deal with some criticism, then you probably shouldn't post at all.

rx7superman 04-27-02 03:59 PM

Answer!!! About gap

Guys that hood fits great. That is a scoot replica hood that chuck (Rotary Extreme) is doing for some of the guys(including my CF version) in the forum as a group buy. Their is a gap in the front because their is no latch yet for the hood. You could see in the second pic that the latch is missing, it is not finished yet. This hood fits better than the original Hood that cost like 2000+ big ones. The gap will be non-existant when the latch is added and Hood completed. By the way Rx7 Rage, The Car looks great with the hood......post pics when finished getting it painted.:D

Jimlab, the reason for the gap is because there is no hood latch yet.

Snook 04-27-02 05:24 PM

ATIHUN: HELL Yeah that is the one that I'm talking about
it was on another black car that didn't have the New front bumper and it still looked sweet as fuck!!
Yeah that hood is just scary I'd get that one for sure
I'm out like a trout cause I'm strait like a gait

Well hopefully a hood latch will pull the hood closer to the bumper and eliminate the gap, but you'll forgive me if I'm a little skeptical.

Crashunit 04-27-02 07:19 PM

I like the hood. Although like many of you stated here it does not go very well on a stock bodied car. I think you really need full body kit to make it work, since its such a wild and agressive hood. As far as copies are concern, I have had both real kits and copies on my car and I can tell you real kits arent always as good as you think, most of the time they are made with very thin amounts of fiberglass to save weight and can crack very easily. Depending who manafactures the copies, they can be even better then the real thing.

neo_omega 04-27-02 08:53 PM

Seems like the CF will come soon. :D

Bucrx7 04-27-02 09:51 PM

Nice hood. I think Chuck did a very well job correcting the fitment from the original. I like both the scoot and the mazdaspeed hoods. Here's a nice one!

Jordan 04-27-02 09:58 PM

bucrx7, you got some pics of the girl sitting inside? :D

well, I like the scoot hood better than the Mazdaspeed's

silvr94r2 04-27-02 11:08 PM

Man i wish my Mazdaspeed CF replica looked like the one on the yellow car. Mine looks like "freeze dried ass" as stated so perfectly before. It has pits and waves and the line around the passenger light has to be trimmed ALOT to fit my RE lights. It's going to be painted now anyway so i guess it really doesn't matter too much.....oh and the framing is breaking off from the main body underneath and the latch is also breaking apart.

Other than that i'm really satisfied with the "knockoff" hood that i purchased:bash:

RotaryKnight 04-27-02 11:30 PM

So basically since there is no latch and only hood pins for this replica...there is no lock on the hood.

Basically if you go down to 7-11 someone can just open up your hood when you are not there.

I agree everyone has a right to have an opinion, but JoeD chill out for once on the "Knock-off needs to be at the title of this thread!" You're like a god damn Nazi when it comes to that shit. What kinda hood can you afford to buy for your rx7?? Hell or even what kind of hood have you bought for your supra since you turned over a new leaf??

You'll turn this into "Whether I have an rx7 or not is not the point because I can surely afford one I am just looking for the right one..." Personally I just think it's hypocritical for someone who no Japanese Aero Parts on his rx7 nor a rx7 in the first place(for whatever reason it may be) to be cutting people down 24/7 for having "Knock-off" or dare I say "REPLICA":D aero parts on their car. That is my opinion.;)

BTW, it does look like it's not sitting right and may be because of the latch. But from the pictures I saw of the fitment quality of the original this is tons better.

Poweraxel 04-28-02 10:19 AM

sweet hood...i wouldnt mind having one

94touring 04-28-02 10:38 AM

If you are worried about not having a latch and people opening your hood, just get some hood pins that use a key to unlock them. Looks like your fitment is good, once you latch it down better and paint it, that gap won't even be noticable.

As far as knockoff, replica, or whatever.....there isn't anything wrong with trying to save a few bucks by taking a chance on quality. As time has gone by these replica hoods have gotten much better. I've seen some really crappy looking replica hoods, but here of late I have seen some very good work. I recently bought a faspac hood (similar to the mazdaspeed style), knowing that many didn't like the quality. But I took a chance, bought 2 dollars worth of bondo, and had it painted, sold my old hood for what it cost to get it painted, and ended up with a great looking hood for not much money. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

7sweetie 04-28-02 01:28 PM

rx7rage, i think the hood looks great, and im sure it'll look even better when you get the hood latch on and painted. people wanna bitch because they are jealous and/or your mod list might be a little longer than theirs, just tell them to shove it. some people here really need to chill out.

atihun 04-28-02 07:56 PM

That is a nice job on the Scoot hood, not my taste but well replicated.

Here is the knockoff carbon fiber MazdaSpeed Replica hoods we have.

It uses the stock latch.

http://www.atihun.com/pictures/mazda/cfhoodfront.jpg

Here's some more pictures:

Pics Here

Knockoff or not, the fit is excellent, and worth the $1300 in savings.

Oh, and did you see the original Scoot hood for $2200? What a piece of crap.

Also, our MazdaSpeed Replica hood you see was just bolted on with no fitting. It also has NO clearcoat on it yet.

~Attila~

slopoke 04-28-02 10:19 PM

Guys, please read all the post before you comment. it has been said plenty of times already that he IS getting a hood latch. so no stealing parts, and it will fit better. as far as fitment, the replica hood fits better, much better, then the original.

elizer 04-28-02 10:49 PM

ok mom.

NickSimcheck 04-29-02 12:00 AM

LOL thanks for making things nice and clear Elizer.

How will getting a hood latch make that 1/4 inch gap in the front of your hood go away? And to everybody else... shit look at how much this guy saved by getting a knockoff, what's the acual scoot hood cost to get in the us? 2400 or some crazy shit. so for a grand less wouldn't you use a little body filler and smooth everything out and save yourself a grand so you can buy some engine mods?? Seriously, for as cheap as it is I am suprized at the quality.

Nick

t-rex7 04-29-02 04:12 AM

Anyone know when they're going to make a knock-off of this hood?

http://www.rotaryextreme.com/tokyo/regtsilver1.jpg

user 84205 04-29-02 04:40 AM

THEY never should make a knock-off of that hood..
Its not RE just because it looks like it....Plus
that body kit its out yet////

Coz the hood is not close all the way. That's why you see the gap. With the latch holding it down, the gap will be gone. That's how.
