Pettit ecu

Are these state specific? Reason I am wondering is I want to pick one up from Florida and I am in California with only 91 octane.

Also, can a used one that was programmed for a car with mods be bolted onto a stock car safely? I want to pick up basic mods one at a time.

If I remember correctly they made cali models and non cali model ecu's. You can bolt one up to a stock car and it will run fine.

I wouldn't waste your time, money, or engine on this. Save your money and get a PowerFC, used if cost is an issue. Trust me, I've been there.

The differences have to do with the year and/or whether it was a California ECU. It has to do with the EGR and that's it. There is no other differences.

The ECU can support full bolt-ons with the stock twin turbos along with a standard streetport.

Will it cause a problem then? My check engine light is already on because of an egr code

Stay away from the purple engine eater. It has a very poor reputation.

What year is your car? Are you sure it was a CA car to begin with?

The short answer to your question is: it will work.

Ack sorry that is the PFS one I'm talking about .

I'd recommend an Apexi PFC over it though. Alot of people run the PFC for a good reason. It really is a great and simple ECU. The commander is also a great tool. I've only driven a stock ECU car recently and let me tell you, it was HELL not having a digital readout for water and air temps.

Hmm you may be right since I am lacking those gauges now... The cost difference might not be so great

I have a Pettit ECU installed in my stock 94 non CA engine with reliability mods, some of which are noted in my signature. Cam at Pettit told me that it is programmed, among other things, not to activate the EGR check engine light. I too was triggering the EGR check engine light with my stock ECU even after replacing my EGR with a new one. I have been very happy with my Pettit ECU and have not thrown any EGR codes since its install two years ago. I have driven a street ported 93 with a PFC. By comparison from a vehicle performance standpoint, the Pettit ECU is exponentially better than the stock ECU. The PFC in the street ported 93 I drove is half exponentially better than the Pettit ECU. Certainly the street porting was a factor in the a/b test. There is no question that the PFC provides a plethora of useful information when used with the commander. Just make sure you know how to use and program the PFC. Obviously, there is a lot of programming information that you can find on this website. If you need water temp, oil temp, and/or oil pressure gauges, I have Autometer with carbon fibre gauge faces and a three pod gauge pillar that I am not using and am getting ready to sell. Sorry, no air temp gauge. Send a PM if you are interested.

Used pettits used to go for $250-300
Used PFCs with the commander go for $750-$800

For that price difference you get a programmable and stable set up, but you have to tune it. You can just plug in the pettit/m2 and rock'n'roll without a second thought.

For $300 bucks the Pettit/M2 ecu is a hell of a good start and relatively liquid when it's time to switch to something with more potential.
