Part number for Mazda OEM Oil Filter?
Part number for Mazda OEM Oil Filter?
I swear I've been searching this info but I can't find it. Anyone know the actual part number for the Mazda OEM Oil Filter? I bought two from the dealer and the parts guy didn't look up the number. Just pulled them from a shelf and said Mazda only uses 2 types. I just want to be sure he gave me the right filters. He seemed overconfident. Thanks very much.

Thanks Mahjik. Somehow, I knew you would respond
Glad I asked - mine says B6Y1 14 302 9A
Your's says B6Y2
I thought it looked a little short. So you think this is the wrong part?

Yeah, I noticed the part number switch too. I keep every scrap of paper related to the car and buy my oil filters from the dealer. If there's some change between the filters, I can't see it. It appears it's a different number for the same part. with the "1" being the older part.
Filter purchased Aug of '97: B6Y1-14-302A
Filter purchased June '00 : B6Y2-14-302
Rest easy. Both work.

Yea, I use only OEM filters now, when I bought the car it has a Purelator<SP?> filter on it, I assume from the dealership (Toyota) that took ownership of it. I bought a bulk of the filters from Mazda when I first bought the car and they were all Y1's.

iirc The Y-1's are built for Mazda by Denso in Japan, but MANA is now sourcing filters from Pureolator for the North American market, and they have the Y-2 part #.
fwiw I have settled on using the Pureolator "Pure-1" filter, part #PL14459 on my fd - it is larger than the oem fd filter and is the listed fitment for RX_7 T-II's

Thanks all. I did use the Pureolator last change - but I feel better using the OEM after reading a few threads. I will say - the Mazda filters were expensive (I think 8 or 9 bucks).
So I'll go ahead and use the Y1.

if you are in the US, you will get a B6Y2-14-302-P1. the Canadians get a B6Y1-14-302A-CA
there is also a B6Y1-14-302A.
the P1 and CA filters are rebranded, not sure about the B6Y1-14-302A, i have sent a PM to the non US parts guy. more info later ( i know he's upside down, but i'm not sure if he's asleep and upside down)

Am currently looking to restock my supply of filters for my FD & FE.
Both show B6Y1-14-302A as the recommended part,
When looking for the WIX counterpart that part cross references to 2 different WIX filters :
51356 for the 7, and
51365 for the 8 ('05)
Anyone know why the difference? Purolator shows PL14612 for both, btw, making me question what the difference could possibly be in xxx56 vs xxx65.
Also, is the OEM Mazda part noted above a Japanese-manufactured part for certain?

B6Y1-14-302A is the Japanese filter, easy to get
The RX-7 originally used larger filters. Then Mazda went dumb and started using the smaller filters. They went to a one size fits all theory.
Go better.
Oil Filter tread = M20-1.5
PL14459 Pure One : ht = 2.95, od = 3.15
PBL14461 BOSS syn: ht = 3.36, od = 2.97, best quality
Royal Purple CHC-10-2808 syn: ht = 3.62, od = 3.15, more expensive, most volume

I think part of the smaller filter on the FD is to make it easier to swap the filter on an oil change. It can be hard to get a larger filter in there past the throttle body elbow.
I've always used FC oil filters, particularly Purolator filters. PL14459, I have that number memorized. I prefer the Pure One or the Boss if possible.
Been running them for years on many RX-7's and friend's RX-7's with great results.
I really don't see any reason to get a special Mazda OEM filter or anything. Purolator makes a quality product and it's available at any parts store for a reasonable price, there's already enough exotic crap on this car, the oil change doesn't have to be one of them.

I've never heard of Boss -- must be something new (and higher up the chain than the PureOne).
A few years back I had one each of the WIX and regret not pulling them out of their boxes and seeing if there is, in fact, any visual difference in 56 & 65; considering they're both compatible with the same Mazda 302A you'd think there'd be no difference. That's why it's somewhat puzzling.
If I can get a case of 15 of the OEM (for a nice deal), like I've done in the past, I'll probably just do that.

that is actually incorrect, the filter might be smaller externally but there is more filter media in it. way back when this was a big deal we had an old OE filter and the B6Y1 cut open on the front counter

What are the odds that filter you pictured, j9, is a counterfeit? Says "Tokyo Roki" on the box. With all the ND spark plug counterfeits floating around on ebay/ amazon these companies must've decided to dabble in filters, too.
