Odd warning beeping problem

When i leave the key in the ignition im sure (not positive) it used to beep at me when i turned the engine off but left the key in the ignition and opened the drivers door.

If it did used to do that is doesnt any more, but the passenger side one does, i.e if passenger side door is opened with key in the ignition it starts beeping. Maybe its always done this and i've never noticed and im imagining things???

Maybe its just a warning noise to let me know the doors open and not about the key left in the ignition??

Any ideas?

this car has the habit of making me rather paranoid!!

Cheers!

Ryan

I'll have to check the passenger door, but my car does not beep at you if the key is in the ignition and you open the door. It will beep if you leave the parking lights on though.

The sensor in the drivers side door could have broken... mine did. So now when I open the door the dome light doesn't turn on and the buzzer doesn't sound, but it will with the passenger side.

Thanks for that, it definitely beeps when i leave the lights on, so then the beeping from the passenger side is because the door is open and nothing to do with the key, that makes sense, just need to know if the drivers side is supposed to beep like the passengers when the door is open or not!

No, the beeping is SUPPOSED to happen when you open either door with either the key in the ignition OR the lights are left on. Ryan, are your dome lights coming on when you open the driver's door? How about with the passenger door? As Nic pointed out, his driver's side door sensor was broken, which turns on the dome lights AND tells the CPU No.2 to beep IF the key is in the ignition OF the lights are on. It also tells the alarm to make lotsa noise if the door is opened It also tells the alarm to NOT arm if you have turned the car off with the door open. Fun stuff...

Interesting. I must have some strange electrical glitch then, because my dome light works when I open the driver's door, but the beep doesn't happen if the key is in the ignition.

Ignition sensor. A little button in the end of the ignition that lets the CPU2 know there is a key there. I theenk you have to replace the entire switch to get it right again. Honstly, who cares, right? Until you lock the keys in the car..

I still want to replace the light bulb over the ignition so I can see where to put the key

I'll have a look tomorrow if the dome light comes on or not, thanks for that tip.

Just out of interest where is the door sensor?? Is it something that can be knocked out of place and put back correctly, or is it one of them ever so fragile things that snaps the minute its touched??

Looking at the door jamb from ouside the car with the door open, look just below the door striker (zinc plated loop that catches the door latch). See the little black plastic dealie with a phillips screw holding it on? There should be a post that sticks out of the dealie, that gets pushed in when you close the door. Basically, it's a ground switch, wherein the wire that connects to the post is grounded when the door opens and the post is extended.

If the post is gone, you replace the entire switch. If the post is there, you have to look at the wiring. Sometimes, the contact for the switch has corroded, and can be cleaned. To really get at the switch. you have to pull the rear interior panel on that side. Then all is revealed
