A Newbie looking for answers
Okie, ive just joined the forum, but i have been searching for a few weeks now. So i decided to make this post to get this off my chest. Im wondering about modding a good amount of power into the FD. But let me explain. Ok, First of all, i dont have an FD, but i LOVE there look, and there quick and agile handling is awesome. But, i love the quartermile, and i would love to keep it street too.
So, im wondering. To keep this car on Emissions, ( I might be able to get a buddy to pass it for me) but anyways, Can we get a good amount of power out of this car, on a stock engine, and would it cost alot, to get about 500RWHP out? I understand 500RWHP is no stock engine. Thats overtime, but im really baising whether ill buy an FD in the future off this or not. So let me break this Down. 1. How Reliable is the stock engine? 2. Will i sarcrifice my body in expenses to get say, 400 to 450 at the wheel? 3. Will this car remain reliable? Ok, now, im not looking for Daily driver, drive to to work, and back, go everywhere with it. But i wouldnt mind taking it out each night to have fun with it too. Gas mileage doesnt bother me, ill pay anything :fawk: |

Which FAQ you talking about? You mean the Single turbo one? Ive been looking over there all night.

The one right here!

Lemme just add that the FD is NOT a good car to set up for drag racing; that's what Mustangs are for. You'll break every driveline component (and spend $20K+ in the process) if you're hardcore and going for some crazy timeslips (10s).
Also, regardless of how you modify the car, as your modification list increases, the car's reliability decreases...quickly. As such, most ppl on the forum have gotten the greatest reliability mod money can buy: another car as a daily driver lol. |
I have another car. And im not a huge fan im stangs, now, im not looking for anything lower then a 10 seconder, and im talking 10's after a few years, but i wouldnt mind high 11's and 12's earlier on, and im checking the FAQ's right now. I understand my reliability will decrease. Im looking at the FAQ's right now, helps alot. Ive noticed one of the sites, rx7.org/robinette states a pretty easy way to get 360 At the flywheel, and im guessing it's reliable. Now, i think this all comes back to my larger question. How reliable is this engine and, how reliable would a street port be?

You keep using the word "reliable". Reliable is something you find in a Honda commercial. If you want something reliable, move on to another car. IMO, there are plenty of other cars which are easier and cheaper to turn into drag cars.
If you want something reliable and sporty, look at a C5 Corvette. Sorry, that's just the cold hard truth. This is just the type of car you have to want, despite all the problems it can and most likely will bring. |
Well, your right, and im reading more on the FAQ's part too. IT seems this car needs a more heavily modification. But like i said MahJik, i do have a second car, So the reliability isnt the biggest problem. But i think i might move on. I dunno, it doesnt sound to bad.

I wouldn't build an FD for a drag car, I would choose something else for that purpose. With all the time you spend beefing up the FD's drivetrain, you could have just started out with something stronger.
Supra's make great drag cars because their drivetrain is REALLY strong stock. |

Im actually looking into a supra aaron1017. My biggest debate was, Supra or rx7. I like the rx7 better personally, but it just seems the supra is more me.

Yeah, im an exterior get in mind. Which is why the rx7 wins me over. But im a Quartermiler too, so i think thats why i take a supra over something like a stang, or trans am. Also they are just built to take power it seems.

Supras are generally quite reliable and have few problems while making 600+hp on stock components. Head on over to http://www.supraforums.com/forum/index.php if ya haven't already. |
Ive been at MKIVforums.com already, or .org whatever it is. :-D
