would love to but dale's site is down
Damn Dale, sorry to see your site getting hacked, hate it when bad things happen to good people :(
site seems to be down
Site is up - link not working, article not there...
Hey Dale, are you going to repost this one :D
Doesnt work again and I have the exact same issue
It's pretty easy to clean that switch. Just take it apart and clean contacts. Re-lube with dielectric grease and put back together.
i would like to see this ignition article re-posted as well, it needs to be worked on and like one of the site's quotes say: "do it once. do it right."
Yeah, I've been waiting for this one to get re-posted again. I'm going to email DaleClark right now.
I seem to remember Dale saying that the problem came back again.
Dale.... your site seems to be down again.... any chance of fixing it soon? I really need to see one of your great write ups.........

i need it as well...damn starting probs.

Site's not down, that article got lost in a hack-attack. Hopefully this weekend I'll have time to a) fix the backdoor the hacker screws with, and b) re-post that article.
Guys, it's a no-brainer to pull the ignition switch and clean it. Hardest part is knowing how to remove the plastics around it to remove it from the car. It's VERY simple. That said, IT DID NOT FIX MY PROBLEM. I cleaned it up nice, but my car still routinely needs 2-3 clicks of the key to engage the starter. I'm not that worried about it, and it won't be hard to find the culprit when I put my mind to it, but I'm investing all my time on the project FD for now, so my car is on the back burner for small stuff like this. If you're bothered by this problem, GO FIX IT! Get a multimeter and start doing some tests - a good afternoon, and I bet you can find the bad contact or voltage drop that's causing the problem. The ignition/starter circuit isn't rocket science, it's about as basic as you can get. Dale |
damn, I didnt know you could clean the switch. I replaced everything on my new fd trying to get rid of the clicking with no start. Finally narrowed it down to the ignition switch and figured there was nothing I could do other than replacing it. So I just went with the s2k starter button. Would have been a lot easier and cheaper if I would have known to clean that damn thing. Good info, thanks Dale.
