FEARED7 02-03-04 02:12 AM

hello all.

The clearance issues on the fitment of Garfinkels set up goes a little like this :).

I had a set of larger compressor housings adapted to fit the cartridge that I am using in the replacements. The primary housing fit awesome, but the secondary housing hit the lower intake manifild just a bit and also leaned against the bell housing of the tranny. When David Garfinkle test fitted this set up on his car there were a couple of places that needed clearancing for the turbochargers to bolt up.

What the Compressor housings are going to do is make more power at a lower boost level. I did the larger compressor housings only on Garfinkles car and decided the smart thing to do is make them bolt up for the rest of my customers....

Hope this clears a few clouds up for some folks.

What boost level is best for the new Upgraded Twins?

Do they still need to be ran at above 15psi for results

NorthwindHost 03-25-04 05:57 PM

ive gotta get a set of these soon.

AgentSpeed 03-25-04 05:59 PM

He's building mine right now. I can't wait!

AntiVenom7 04-26-04 10:32 AM

Not to flame anybody, but here's the funny thing, the pictures posted look almost identical to '99 spec turbos from mazda... cause the externals don't change... it's all the guts, Wastegate, Turbine & Compressor wheels, with milled out housings... that's what would be impressive, but that would also be somewhat stupid, since everybody would be able to see what BNR did, and how they differ... and how to make their own.

But to stand there without a dyno chart and drool all over these is nonsense.

FDNoi2egard 04-26-04 10:59 AM

yeah...what about those dyno charts?

There isnt one part on those turbos that is the same as a 99 spec. Well maybe your stock housings if they are the same for a 99 as a 93 but other than that everything from the compressor wheel all the way thru to the turbine wheel is brand new aftermarket. Non of it is Mazda stuff except the housings. Actually eventhough the housings are the stockers they are sooo modified they arent stock either lol

Also guys, sorry about the dyno sheets. I meant to have my car running and tuned by now but things came up and it got but on the back burner. As soon as I get done with my fuel system and IC setup I'll have it tuned and let you know how it goes. I can say this though, they should spool real nice cause they sure are easy to turn!!!

As for power....they should make at least as much power as the old stage 3's

Stephen, any chance of having a word with Bryan the next time you see him - having a set of these turbos sitting with him, when they could be on my car is killing me :o:

I've got 1/4 miles, track days and dyno runs to put them through :D

RX7Wishing 04-26-04 12:44 PM

damn, thats a nice digital camera.

SPOautos 04-26-04 01:29 PM

Robertio, I'll prob see him for lunch in the next day or so....I'll mention to him that the suspense is killing you LOL

RS7Wishing, Thanks man. Its a Cannon G1 which is a old model. It was thier first G series and I LOVE it. I think they are up to a G5 not though. I've had that one for about 3 years, it cost me around $700 new (thats a online cheap price too ) and you can buy it used on Ebay now for around $200. If you want a really nice digital camera that can be fully manual or auto, but your on a budget I'd suggest getting a G1 off Ebay.

Yours,
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2597118

I know it's not the same angle, but they --> LOOK <-- the same, and that was my point, everybody was drooling over the internals with pictures of the externals, what would have been impressive is a side by side picture of the '99 turbine wheel and the BNR one... --> That <-- was my point.... and in no way was I trying to imply that yours weren't upgraded... or better... I'm sure they are, the pictured didn't tell the story though...

RotorMotor 04-26-04 09:11 PM

now compare the 2 above turbos.... you can see how the intake side is bored out to accomidate the larger internals... it doesnt look significantly larger, but does look larger. multiply that by 2, and you get your extra umph.

can anyone post some pictures of the stage 2's or stage 3's???

You can tell the wheels are different if you look at the material surrounding the intake hole. Notice how much material is between the studs and the compressor wheel on the 99's, then look at mine between the studs (or holes rather) and the wheel. MUCH less material cause its fitted with a much larger wheel. Thats what most people are looking at.

I could be wrong but seems like Bryan told me these wheels are about 4mm larger than the stockers, and the stockers are actually 1mm larger than the 99 so that would make mine around 5mm larger than the 99. In the turbo world a 5mm larger compressor wheel is a HUGE difference.

yeah stephen..get off your couch and put that car together!

RED BULL TIME!

rotorbrain 04-27-04 05:18 PM

i noticed that the comp. housings are milled down at the turbo inlet. is that milling there to make up for the difference in length? the cartridges that these come with are longer, correct? so im just tickling my fancy and wondering if that is the "fix" for the length of them. . . so as to make the install easy and able to be bolted up to everyones already existing mods.

paul

btw, ill have pics of david garfinkles setup later on tonight.

TireSmokin7 04-27-04 06:12 PM

I just spoke with Bryan on the phone, wow what a friendly and informative individual. He said there are 6 or 7 sets of the new stage 3s out there already. So com'on, lets see some new dyno charts people!

Nah, I believe thats just where he rubbed while milling out the intake hole. All the fitment is done from the inside internally and some "other" stuff that I either dont know or cant talk about LOL.

BUT, I can say this....the reason Garfinkles were the way they are is cause he doesnt have the stock compressor housings on his. He has larger housings. Thats the reason they didnt fit just right.

ALL of these will have the stock compressor housings....unless maybe if someone specifies different

STEPHEN

rotorbrain 04-28-04 06:05 PM

okay, so the actual cartridges arent any longer? thats what i was under the impression of. thanks for clearing that up.

im trying to post pictures, but my website cant host them. . . theyre too big and im not great with resizing them. ill get them up asap, though.

Allright Allright !! Uncle...
4mm difference, from the exterior, wow ! And once you bolt it all up it'll look EXACTLY the same... My point, is and I'm not fighting you on this is that the exterior had minor changes, if you want to call that inlet exterior... and that the real "meat" is inside, and that it's very likely that unless someone takes 'em appart you're not going to see a side by side comparrison, therefore Dyno Sheet Talks BS Walks....

Which is all anybody wants, that has posted....
