FWIW, I just put in CRC Sta-Lube 85w-90 in my trans and it is running very well. It is a true GL-4 gear oil and is specifically labeled as being yellow metal safe.
I think I spent $36 on a big jug and still have some left over... forgot how much a PITA pumping heavy fluids with a big shop syringe is while laying on your back.

The stock lower shifter bushing is nylon, but designed to sit in a gear oil bath so doubting it makes a lot of difference. I've heard of guys using a marine grease, which intuitively might make some sense. I just use a high-tack general purpose grease. Seems to stay on well. Helps with smoothness, but I don't see it being under a lot of load or heat.
