need help purchasing radiator cap

should i go with an aftermarket one or an oem one?
(usually i would go for the best priced .. lowest price and does the best job)what is the oem one rated at? 16lb?
also i was thinking about going with a 13lb one .. any thoughts?

I believe the OEM one is 9lbs, I am using the greddy 13lbs, I dont see any ill effects since my temps dont go over 91C. You can use either one.

13lbs

generic NAPA/Pep Boys 13psi cap here. They're all the same from what I've seen.

Yeah I'd just buy a cheap-o one from the local parts place. I would go with a 13 PSI or 0.9 Bar cap.

even if you have removed the AST? I have the m2 cap and it is 16psi...

Don't go cheap, buy the OEM one.

I replaced my cap 3 times because my car kept leaking coolant from the overflow tank. It stopped when I bought an OEM one. Pretty scary scenario if you ask me. Thermoswitches, thermostats, and coolant caps I always buy OEM (now). These parts are relatively inexpensive but can cause a world of hurt if they go bad.

I have never had and issues with aftermarket as far as those go. Its what i'm using now.

It's .9 bar (not 9psi) 13 psi OEM. you mix it, lol. :D

I had ussues with an aftermarket 16psi cap, went back to 13 psi OEM, no problems anymore...

what were the rating on the caps you went with?
also i read somewhere that going higher could be bad for it? like 16lbs?

13 lbs.

It seems to be that it's a hit and miss with these cheapo aftermarket stuff. A time before that I had replaced the thersmostat and a couple of days later it got stuck. My shit hit the H in a matter of seconds. Luckily it happened on my truck which can take a slight overheating. If it would had happened on my FD: bye bye engine.

After the whole cap thing I'd decided that no more aftermarket parts for items like these. On neither my truck or FD.

Just get a OEM 1 from Ray @ Malloy
