Need Help!!! Big Problem!!!!!

my FD is acting really weird lately. at idle, everything seems fine, I can rev it up 4-6000 RPM no problem, but once the car is in motion, I have to use the gas very slowly, if I accelerate too fast, the fuel cuts off at about 3000, and then a big backfire bang...... it's so loud, it sounds like a gun shot! my old backfires sound like a multiple of small burst... but now is a really loud single bang, follow by fuel cut. what's wrong with it? I only have simple mods: filters, DP, no CAT, exhaust. factory ECU. can anyone tell me why it's doing this? I have an E-manage coming within the week, will it help?

Yeah, it's called fuel cut. It's happening because you are running a midpipe on the stock ecu with no boost control. That's a big no-no. You are lucky you haven't totally blown your motor.

Even with a boost controller, you will likely not be able to restrict your boost to 10 psi, which is all the stock ecu can handle. You need to get some restriction back into the exhaust ASAP. Buy a used stock cat from someone or get a hi-flow. Either that or pick-up a used or new Pettit ECU that can handle the increased boost. Lower your boost as much as you can with a boost controller until you have the other supporting mods -- higher flowing injectors, higher flowing fuel pump, larger intercooler, etc.

You need to spend some time researching how the FD works and how modding it affects the various systems.

I read somewhere also that you could put a restrictor plate in your exhaust with a 2.5 in. hole to help put some restriction back in the system. It's used by a few people to combat boost creep in the higher gears.

Something to try...

God I hope you were kidding here because that will do nothing. Rynberg was right on here, you need to put your cat back on or lower your boost to about 7psi.

thx guys! I didn't do these mods to my car in the first place, I bought the car used with all this stuff in it already.. I have some stuff coming in within the week, and I hope they can help, pls let me knowif there's anything else besides what I'm getting that will help fix the problem.. I'm getting a new exhaust with removable silencer, Greddy E-manage, Greddy Profec E-01. and I'll probably put a cat back in there too.

Is it as soon you come into boost? If it is, you need to reset your computer, as zeroFDevide suggested.

Disconnect the negative wire, then step on the brake pedal for, say 20 to 30 secs. That should do it.

No, the wastegate is not the issue, not to mention since it's internal it's not exactly "upgradable" without serious modification or new turbos. The issue is that the turbos are building too much boost to quickly, and the ECU doesn't like it. Either get a new ECU to combat the newfound exhaust flow, or put a cat on the car.
