It's the turbo control soleniod and that is normal for it to mount there.

DSM Makes tons of electronic components for several car manufatures. Apparently they are of good quality, though I have som reservations about that claim after having faced a few failed DSM products. The Turbo Control Solenoid is bar far the worst example of DSM inginuity, although I blame mazda more for ignoring the limitations of this component by placing it in a high heat location. I
