RE Suzuki, if your front bumper is still pushed/dented in and is not cracked or anything you should pop it back out. If you leave a urethane bumper dented in like that the sun will bake it in permanently and you may end up having to replace the whole front bumper. This happened to an old FC I bought. Maybe use a heat gun to get it to pop back out if you have to, but be really careful not to melt it. I agree with taking it to Mazda for an estimate then going after the insurance money.

This thread is worthless without pics.

Oil cooler duct? WTF are you guys taking about? Maybe you mean the brake ducts in which case you do not need them.

onefast3gen, you do not need to buy the rebar either. You will have to modify your old rebar because the '99-spec turn signals are larger. It's like a 30min job with a dremel to cut it. Best to just do a search, it has been talked about a lot.

weaklink 08-15-04 10:51 PM

yeah the oil cooler duct if it is the driver side, or passenger if it is an r1...if the rebar is smashed underneath then you can take it off and the urethane will just pop back into shape. i had to remove my rebar anyway when I went FMIC.

OVaSLide 08-15-04 11:35 PM

the new 7 series? E65? those cars has a PDC Parking distance control sensors mount in a bumpers though, oh well, sorry about what happened

NewbernD 08-16-04 08:32 AM

This happened exactly the same way 2 years ago.. BMW 7 series backed out into my car in a parking lot.. I was on the horn and the old man just kept coming. He got out of his car and said "Oh shit, did I just hit a Ferrari?"

Make sure it gets fixed to your liking. I'm still pissed that the paint on the front of my car doesn't match the rear.

RE Suzuki 09-08-04 01:12 PM

it was 1998 bmw 7 series. No PDC parking distance control. =( maybe that would have saved my car.....

We need to install larger/louder horns...
Something like a trucks airhorn.

Black97VR4 09-08-04 06:35 PM

His insurance is paying for it. Get as much new stuff as you can.

RE Suzuki 10-28-04 03:50 AM

Here is the update!!
I finnaly have my car done after pain and sufferings.

I now have 99spec front bumper, chin lips, combo lights, RB type 2 spoiler!
And the bodyshop guy, Ben actually sanded and repainted the front fenders, head light covers and the whole hood just because he thought that would enhance the look of the brand new bumber! Man, hes a one nice guy. My car practically looks brand new now....Accident was a pain but this is pretty damn rewarding, i must say.

If you guys live around the bayarea, you should visit B&K Motoring at Hayward(23712 Clawiter Road, Hayward, CA 94545*510-887-8988*.

The paint job on my car is Excellent. Bumper fiting is perfect. He does hell of a job. I give him 10 out of 10. I actually got the chills when I saw my car :D

You don't need the lower spoiler or new rebar. Most likely you can use the old one and trim it. In some cases people with a FMIC don't even have a rebar. Also FYI the 99 nose doesn't have oil cooler ducts, though I believe you can purchase some from FEED or CWR.

Oh and http://www.dsmetc.com/forum/images/smilies/tittywop.gif

If this, if that, if this, if that...

No you don't need the lip spoiler, but why would you exclude it? If you had an R1 and had to replace the front bumper for whatever reason, would you leave the lip spoiler off just because? And unless you're doing the work yourself, most body shops aren't even going to bother w/ trimming the old rebar. It's not on his dime anyway, so might as well get a new one. And good luck getting anything timely and inexpensively from FEED. CWR? They're not even in business any more, aren't they?

Well you said he needs all those things, which you must certainly do not need to replace the bumper. The only reason I brought up FEED because you incorrectly advised that he would need new oil cooler ducts. There are no 99 spec oil cooler ducts.
Sure he could waste all the money he gets from the insurance company on getting it repaired, or he could do some of the work himself and pocket the money or put it towards performance modifications.

actually dont back up unless you know you can make it. I was in a similar situation when I had my Civic. I was stopped in a parking lot waitng for a car to pull out so I could take his spot when the guy parked directly to the right of me decides to back out into me. I layed on the horn and threw it in reverse as fast as posible but I couldnt back out fast enough and the guy hit me. It was some old ass basterd in a Mercedes that didnt deserve to drive in the first place and he decided that he was not at fault. So I get the cops involved and because I was in a applebees parking lot the cop couldnt issue a ticket. Anyway when it came time to report the claims they ended up ruling it 50/50 and the only reason it wasnt entirely his fault was because I was backing at the time of colision. It makes no sense at all but thats the way insurance companys are. The sad thing is if when I saw it coming I only layed on the horn and didnt do shit I wouldve gotten his isurance company to pay for everything. WTF

RE Suzuki 11-18-04 08:40 PM

yea i guess its case by case depending on your luck
