This is why I want to know what the cost is. If it's 2x more than the efini, then forget it.

No it wasn't $400. It would probably be in the same ball park as the efini. But the efini has nipples that I don't need too so why spend twice as much as I need to??? From feeling the work he's done on the inside, I'd put it up against an efini pipe anyday. But that's just my thoughts. I've held an efini y-pipe too. So basically this was my choice to do it this way, you all choose your way.

The main point of all this was not to get into some pissing contest anyway. I was just showing off some good quality work. I'm not a big fan of the efini pipe, I like the black piece. I'm not too big on polishing everypiece anyway, that's why most of my stuff is powder-coated.

And all you rx7 wannabe engineers need to relax too. I'm building my car to enjoy, not to maximize every fucking piece that I come across. My power goals are modest. With my set up I could easily push for upper 400's. Instead I want 380 at least but RELIABLE!

I guess I'm done with my rant. Enjoy the pics and remember I did this mostly for looks and not flow.

Not yet... I'm getting impatient myself. I might be taking a trip to go see Steve since he hasn't came to Birmingham yet. I'll post them as soon as I get her tuned!

The Efini pipe has an intrusion where the blowoff nipple is , but not as large as the old style pipe . The pipe in the pictures does not have any intrusion ,if I remember correctly . SM in FLA, Gar says to send him a large supply of secret sauce, and to call every now and then .

the ancient words 12-10-04 10:07 PM

yep, David has his welder cut the blow-off port out, then welds a plate over the opening and smooths everything out inside (and outside)....all I can say is I wasn't getting any boost creep before and after installing this set-up (previously I had the M2 pipe with std hose connection) I'm getting loads of boost creep, which indicates the engine is moving more air (and now I need to port the WG)

$100

the y-pipe is also cut down to provide additional clearance under the strut bar

But seriously that's some quality work. Looks good.

Here's a few of it once bolted on...
And an extra of Garfinkle's torque brace after powder-coating it.

I think the only advange of the efini pipe over this one would be getting rid of the coupling and going with a bolt and flange setup. But by marks car i guess that is an option.

AgentSpeed 12-13-04 05:09 PM

I'd say your right. I might put a flange on mine one day. I'm going to get rid of the extra material above my water pump first and then see if I can run a larger pipe to my IC. I'll probably route it the same way as it is now but with a pipe that's not flat.

Snook 12-13-04 05:34 PM

that'll give you a lot more clearance

AgentSpeed 12-13-04 06:21 PM

That was a nice cut! I'll probably but an extra housing just in case I shave off too much... I know my luck lately!

Snook 12-13-04 09:37 PM

it's real simple use a bandsaw cut slow and just hold it in place real tight

wanna make sure not to cut too much where the thermostat housing mates with the water pump

say hello to garfinkle for me and ask if he remembers talking with yanni from florida

xstacy7 12-13-04 10:18 PM

AgentSpeed, I remember walking into David's house and picking that pipe up with a big gaping hole in it. Looks like the Garfinkle boys did a good job again

rotorbrain 12-14-04 07:15 AM

David did all the work on Heaths part , all but the welding . Jeremy was doing some work on a Goldwing at the time . Under Davids direction .When David gets an argon tank he will do the welding also .Last week there were 5 throttlebodys there to be polished, one to be bored out .I saw 5 or 6 upper intakes and several lower intakes including mine .One set was for a three rotor . The three rotor lower is to be sectioned for hood clearance . Also 4 Xowners silver 93 is there getting a rebuilt motor installed .To much to do and so little time .

AgentSpeed 12-14-04 09:48 AM

Yeah I told him to take his time on mine since they were so busy already but he still got it done quick!

rotorbrain 12-14-04 09:17 PM

i think once he got started on it. . . the juices started flowing!!!! maybe i can get those juices flowing on my stupid manifolds!!!!! jeez, im so lazy these days!!!

AgentSpeed 12-14-04 11:35 PM

I go in spurts... I'm about to get real lazy, my wedding is coming up and I just booked my honeymoon. Looks like car parts are going to be few and far between until summer.

Did you get my PM???
