Mounting the Undertray

My car didn't come with one but I want to install an undertray. What does the front lip of the undertray bolt to? From looking at the parts manual it looks like it might a flange along the bottom of the front bumper.

Thanks,

Jeff

The undertray bolts on to the front lip of your car. Well if you have a front lip that is

There are about 6 bolts along the leading edge just under the front lip that go into captured nuts on the lower edge of the bumper. Four more (two on each side) that are recessed around the AC condensor lines etc. just aft. The last two bolts are on the trailing edge into the cross-member. All are 10mm. There are also two 'ears' on the trailing edge that use a push-fastener into the cross-member. The fasteners area similar to the ones that anchor the front of the hatch carpet.

Thank you for the reply.

So if you have an aftermarket bumper that does not have a flange with bolt holes at the bottom for a front lip does that mean you cannot use the undertray?

What would normally be the front lip (such as an R1 lip) which you bolt onto the bumper is molded into the aftermarket bumper.

Then what do you do (or not do)?

Shine has a undertray for aftermarket.

you should be able to bolt the stock under tray up to a car with an aftermarket bumper.
I ran my undertray with a cwest front end. I did not bolt the undertray to the front lip however.

The tray was sturdy enough without the bolts along the front, and the leading edge of the undertray kinda tucked into the larger lower lip of the cwest front end. it worked fine.

i would highly recomend installing the undertray because it helps direct air through the radiator of the car, of course leading to cooler water temps.

Thanks everyone for the replies. One last question then. With the stock bumper does the undertray and an R1 lip share the same monting bolts?

With an aftermarket you fab up an insert to bolt it up. Sheet aluminum works

Could you give me a little more information on the insert you mentioned?
