Motor trend Car of the Year Sticker

I have a '93 FD delivered in July 1993 with a sticker in the lower left hand windshield. The sticker is the Motor trend car of the year 1993, black with gold. Anyone else have one of these? I wonder when they appeared on the car. I went to the trouble of having the sticker transferred to my new windshield. Thanks to Ray Crowe at Milloy Mazda for appreciating that and having the "glass guy" save the sticker.

even as a rotray owner, if i were that glass guy and someone told me to save a sticker i'd be thinking: *what a shmuck* as i peeled it off. :)

It was actually import car of the year...but yeah. Cool that you still have them.

FDNewbie 08-16-06 11:30 PM

Is that a Mazda sticker? If so, is there a part #?

If not, and anyone has one they can scan in high resolution, I can have 'em made :D

That's one of those things that will be very sought after if the car becomes truly collectible. It's nice that you went to the trouble to save it.

like a true business man he is, fdnewbie said he could get them made w/ a nice scan of one :)

RE-Amemiya 08-17-06 07:47 AM

I don't care if mine's a '94, i'd buy one

Mike M 08-17-06 07:51 AM

To each his own. I purchased the last OEM Mazda winshield for a 93 FD, with bronze tint. It was in a warehouse in California, and Mazda crated it up and sent it out, in perfect condition. I'll post a picture of the sticker soon. The devil is in the details.

MichaelFregoe 08-17-06 07:54 AM

I'd buy one

DaleClark 08-17-06 08:24 AM

They were only on '93s as far as I know, since the '93 was the Import Car of the Year. I always thought it was a dealer add-on.

Ramy, get some of those suckers made up! :)

I have a '94 as well...but I want the sticker too lol. I remember seeing it once or twice before in person... had I given it more thought, I would have been sporting the sticker myself by now :p:

We'll see how Mike's pic turns out. Usually pics aren't easily done, unless there's no glare, it's on a very flat surface, and is high resolution (hence why I said a scan would be best). Then again, if worst comes to worse, if someone wouldn't mind removing their own sticker and donating it so I can get 'em made, I'd be happy to provide them w/ a new one to replace theirs free of charge ;)

I have had a couple with the sticker. They look just like the award with the words in the middle.

compuskills 08-17-06 06:08 PM

When I first got my car I showed that sticker to my friend with a 1990 TT 300ZX and he said his was car of the year 1990. So I said so you mean my car beat yours...
His expression was hilarious.

Here is a like to current and past winners:

My '93 does not have a decal. Neither did the first '93 I ever saw and test drove, back in the summer of '92. Nor did a handful of cars I tested whilst looking for one to purchase.
Must have been some dealer option.
And yeah, I want one too!

It appears to be about a 50 deg. ellipse 1 11/16" x 2 1/16"

Railgun 08-17-06 08:08 PM

Goo Roo has one as well just as an FYI...
