more lies? 99 spec turn lamps

does anyone have a close up picture of the front of a 99 spec combo light (fron turn signals)? is there anything specific i could look for, after they've been mounted in the bumper to tell if they are authentic?

i'll explain the "more lies" soon...

black99 03-25-04 08:30 AM

If they are supposedly brand new and never been mounted you could look at the wires on the back of the light. If they plug right into your stock turn light harness(with no adapters on them) then they are most probably replicas. See the real '99 spec lights you have to modify your stock turn light harness to wire them up, or buy an adapter. The replica's plug right into your old harness.

Snook 03-25-04 08:48 AM

umm no its simpler than that. The real ones say STANLEY on them on the lense. I have a few closeups of them but you dont need it.

FormerPorscheGuy 03-25-04 08:54 AM

So tell us about "more lies" already.

felix_is_alive 03-25-04 09:05 AM

yup whats the deal here with the "more lies"
i have to buy a set , i dont know what to get replicas or oem , is there any visible difference???

WHIPSrx7 03-25-04 09:16 AM

i've heard that there is no real big difference, just the markings on the lens, like said above STANLEY v. other names or nothing. but there is no big diff. from what i've heard

craig

pugg57 03-25-04 09:30 AM

you mean the glass cover right? i noticed that on the pictures of the 99 spec combo lights on RX7Store.net... its near the middle on the lower edge of the "glass" cover...

well, now for my explanation... i was looking at Tom Ngo's orange FD... you know the one with probably $100k of work and parts on it? the one no one has ever seen actually run? yeah that one... well, there's no lettering on the lights... or big show off boy spend all the money on a car that never runs and put knock off lights on it :) sorries... more lies though to me... i think that's just pathetic.

i know, its probably not a big deal to anyone else... but that kind of stuff pisses me off... even with all the money in the world to build a car... he still cheaped out and bought knockoffs.

AMRAAM4 03-25-04 09:58 AM

Isn't Tom Ngo's FD that riced out silver ine that everyone loves on CarDomain? He's sponsored by ADR and has new wheels every other month and has stickers on his car for companies he doesn't even use products for. Did he finally do the entire car over?

P.S. He needed more gauges :p:

P.S.S. I had just bought my authentic 99spec lights AND the wiring harnesses right before these copies came out :(

respecttheseven 03-25-04 10:04 AM

i have a pair of each fellas! there is no differnce and to be hoenst the replica ones seem better, since they plugright in to the us spec stock clip. only different words on front, stanley ,and a bunch of jibberish on aftermarket ones. u can't even seethe words anyway, they are a good thing for us poor guys who live a dream driving an fd every day! good luck everyone!!

felix_is_alive 03-25-04 10:49 AM

ps where would be the best place to get the replicas??

NukeGenius 03-25-04 10:50 AM

who cares really? As long as they are functional, and HE likes them, why should he have to worry about others' opinions?

What an assault on the eyes. :gay:

black99 03-25-04 12:03 PM

Everything on Tom Ngo's car is replica or non-functional, so why is it a huge suprise if the lights are?

AMRAAM4 03-25-04 12:13 PM

I'm glad to see I am not the retard of the bunch thinking that car is a ricebox. I appreciate show cars, but that FD is a disgrace. If you ever see one of my cars like that, please come and cut off my scrotum with a plastic butterknife.

cavellm 03-25-04 12:25 PM

The most important question. Why the hell do you even care if someone has a "replica" or OEM turn signals?

Does this affect your life in any way? Is thisreally such an important subject to make a big deal out of?

pugg57 03-25-04 12:57 PM

look, i'm not saying there is anything wrong with buying knockoffs... but with the way all the tuner magazines blow smoke up his ass for a "top" quality show car when it seems like its all bolt on CRAP it pisses me off. people, a while back, had been bad mouthing this car quite badly so... i figured i would add my $.02 that's all. wasn't trying to make a big deal out of it, just pointing out more 3rd gen rice :)

and Felix, look on ebay for the knock off's, they're like $200 instead of near $400 (have seen them down to $120 at close before)

jimlab, who's JoeD?

POM HB 03-25-04 01:26 PM

Well,

That's the thing about the internet forum. Everyone has got the opinion, but usually not all the same. Although I think the car is very much 'riced out', the man's got some time, money, and effort to it. And, the best of all, he's got sponsor money for it! Plus, he's now well-known (if he'd like that).

So, we shouldn't be making fun just because we don't like his idea, you know. After all, it's his car.
