MOD question

All I have on my car is a downpipe and a cat-back exhaust... Could I remove the cat w/out any problems such as running lean, etc? Everything else is stock including the ECU. How loud will it be even with the muffler attached? If at all possible, please give me the pros and cons.

I know this website has a search, but I was wondering about the effects of these two mods in combination w/ each other...

Your help is appreciated!!!!!

If you do a search you'll find your answer.

The short answer is: No, you will not be safe.

You will see boost creep. Too high of a flowing exhaust will cause the car to breathe too easily which will cause boost to go up and fuel to get lean really quick. It's not worth it...hold off and get a nice ECU (powerFC is good) - then you can modify ANYTHING and be able to retune it so you will be safe.

It will be loud, yes. Exhaust note with the cat is like screaming through a towel. Remove the towel and it'll get noticeably louder.

PROS: HP gain, flames (always cool), more sporty noise (meaning loud), can remove the air pump

CONS: Overboosting with stock ECU, won't come close to passing emissions, exhaust may be too loud for local ordinances.

And if you spent an hour reading through the newbie links in the sticky or reading any of the good archived posts here, you would know for yourself without having to ask.

This is like the 6th or 7th basic mod question in the last few days. It's getting a little old people. Good useful threads are getting pushed down out of sight. Not to mention, every single time one of these ultra-redundant threads gets posted, the search function becomes more useless.

I think from now on, we should just tell people it's ok to run a midpipe without supporting mods. They'll blow their engine, sell their car, and the forum will have one less bandwidth clogger.

rant off

No, you shouldn't run a midpipe without supporting ecu and fuel system modifications.
