Unhappy Misfire/Breakup problems with FD.

Howsit guys..

Bear with me.. Its 3am in the morning here in S.A

I need your help

OK so i have an imported FD rx7 95 jap spec. Intake and exhaust and a panspeed ecu so i think cause it has panspeed stickers on it..

Iv been experiencing misfire intermittently.. Some times on hot days, or on diff gas eg Engen or Shell.. When not misfirering.. Shes like a bullet.. Pulls clean

Problem is now its persistent.. She breaks up all the way to redline on boost... I can give her half throttle and she will be fyn thou..

She had NGK R6725-9 plugs all round with Nology hotwires(Not sure how old they are)... Thinking it was plugs i swapped them for BUR7EQP's (L) and BUR9EQP's(T)... That didnt work

Also something to take into consideration.. We only have 95 octane gas here... Will running low octane cause it to misfire ? Im sure she used to good Jap gas which panspeed tuned her for...

Im gonna try out an octane booster so to it helps in anyway.. If not .. I guess i will have to start with new ignition wires ..

Wish me luck...

do not flog your car at all, japan has wicked high octance fuel like 100+ you will blow your motor, get a power fc and get it tuned so it doesnt detonate. this killed my motor.

Wait, the car was tuned for the 95 octane?? (you guys get 95 octane? Lucky!!) lol

If so, running a lower octane MIGHT cause it to run funny although i am not totally sure cause that would be a tuning question?...

Please verify the type of ECU before anything, at least you can rule out a possible tuning problem if you have the stock ecu.

Also if you did change plugs to NGK, not that i think it would have helped NOW but it might in the future, if you change your wires to NGK too. I had mismatched plug/wires on my talon which caused it to idle and rev a bit funny but it wasnt that irratic. I still noticed it though, especially when the car was fully warmed up.

How much boost is the car making?
Do you have an ignition amplifier?
What fuel system / injector sizes?

Mine was misfiring on WOT too. Slowly acceleration was fine though. In the process of changing the plugs, I noticed a leading spark plug wire was fried off the ignition coil...which seems to be common. Replaced the coil, wires, and plugs and now it runs like a champ....minus the fan slamming into my PFS IC making an annoying sound. Too cold right now to work on it. Love/hate is right.

Good luck!

You've bumped 2 ancient threads on the topic, most likely those people are long gone or don't remember what they did. If you are having an issue start a new thread and we can help troubleshoot.
