We were supposed to take a test(of any kind) to get a license?
I walked in, matched some symbols on a piece of paper, and got my license.
I was a B- student in HS, but I can still drive circles around you.
SAT, never took it. Don't have to. Still allowed in to College.

I would say, if you want a sports car, get a C4 vette and enjoy it. That way when you crash it, you won't have destroyed an already desently rare car.

hey guys why dont we stick to the subject matter at hand.Which is whether this guy should trade or not trade his rx8 for the fd.
Personally I would just get the 6 speed rx8 and be done with it.Blitz is working on a supercharger kit for it.Id save for that.Much easier than having an fd.
Me personally I sometimes regret ever buying the fd.Its a fuckin money pit.Its great when it runs right. But out of the 2 and a half years ive owned it its run correctly 2 days.Hows that for an equation. If you dont have 3 to 6 k for a supercharger or turbo kit for the rx8 you havent even begun to scratch the surface of what kind of costs youre looking at for a rx7.Take it from me man.Think before you act.Otherwise you will come to regret your decision.

To me it seems like youre already set on getting the car.If you do.
Blue book the car.Depending on mileage Im willing to bet its worth a lot less than 15 k. If the turbos are the originals and the engine is also the original engine youre looking at about 6k in replacement costs.Because if the engine goes it shreds your turbos as well. Most engines last about 60k miles.Use that as a good point of refference.
Talk the guy down in price using what we have taught you.Knowing all these pitfalls will help you steer clear of a shitty deal.I guarantee the dealer knows all the issues already and is trying to cash in on the cars popularity and beauty alone.
He doesnt give a shit about you or your life story.Remember that also. All he wants is to make money off your ass.

It all comes down to what the guy is offering for the rx8 and what hes willing to let the rx7 go for.
If hes willing to give say 24k for the rx8 and let the rx7 go for say 12k maybe its not a bad move.Remember that 6k minimum cost youre looking at though.
That 12k becomes 18k easily.PLus the cost of maintenance as well every year thats gonna come outta your pocket. Not a warranty.

If you can get a decent deal and walk away with a decent amount of cash it would be alright. But ive never ran into a car dealer that had the customers best interests in mind.If youre as smart as you say you are then realize that not all of us are pricks and some of us dont want you to make a shitty mistake.

My verdict is to trade the auto rx8 for a 6 speed and if thats not enough balls for you, save for a supercharger kit.Plus the auto models are a bit more costly. So you might end up saving some money and gaining like 30 horses at least.Go for a car that has the mazdaspeed aero package. It looks awesome and a 6 speed tranny.Youll be all set man.Take the advice.Youll thank me later.

If you do get the Fd, the only thing that might save you, is purchasing the best extended warranty they have, if they will offer it to you. Chances are, this isn't a big name lot, its a side of the road wholesale one, so you're out there. I'd stick with the 8. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Well ignoring all the personal stuff and talking about what the site is about, Rx-7s, I checked everything out today and the car already had a boost guage and another guage which I didn't completely understand what it was, it was a digital meter for air/fuel and it was verticle and at the bottom said lean and the top said Rich. The car has 103K miles and it was rebuilt 8000 miles ago and the car has twin Apex Intakes. It has extremo(never heard of them personally) performance tires on. All the hoses and belts on it were looking newer than my 8500 mile rx-8. hmm..what else..oh ya, the ONLY thing I saw wrong with it was that the muffler was a little rusted, but that's about it, no other rust anywhere else..

Oh ya, I forgot to mention I saw ALL the paperwork and reciepts from all the car shops he took the car too for maintnance and rebuilding and in all the paperwork I saw that he put almost 15,000 miles on it, and from what the dealer tells me is that this guy is the only owner of the car and he's selling it to buy a 911 Turbo.

speeddemon7 01-26-05 03:22 PM

15 grand for a car with 103k miles is fucking crazy.
I paid 11 for my car at the time.It had 98k.Still high but 4 k less.
Whats been rebuilt? the engine or the turbos? you need to find this out if you havent already.
also if you can get an extended warranty like metioned earlier.Do it.
the car is worth maybe 11 if that. Keep us posted.Alos did you check for a correct boost pattern yet? 10-8-10
Word of advice.Dont ingore shit and pass it off as nothing.Whatever little symptoms you feel can become a headache in the near future.
What about the vacuum lines? have they been changed to high temp silicone tubing?

Wait a minute.
How can the guy be the only owner of the car if 1 .the car has 103,000 miles but the owner can only account for 15,000 miles? Sounds like the fucker is trying to get over on your ass. 2. New belts arent neccesarily a sign of a mechanically sound car.Its just there to make it look good temporarily.
So let me get this right. The only performance mod whatsoever is a intake system correct?

The good this is that it has a boost gauge.Check that boost patterns out.
What about the ast? is it still stock? if so plan on spending 150 for an all aluminum one.
What about the downpipe? is it still the stock pre cat? if so plan on another 100-300 dollars for a stainless steel downpipe plus installation if you arent a do it yourself kind of guy . and thats just for starters.

sorry I meant he putn 15,000 dollars not miles, I was getting confused between miles and dollars in my head, he had put 15,000 DOLLARS in the past 40,000 MILES and 7,000 DOLLARS in the past 9,000 MILES. Also I talked to a performance/tuning shop, I knew the guy before he's a pretty cool guy, he works on all my friend's cars, from a Mach 1 to a 550HP 240SX all done in this shop, he's looked at my 8 before and after that I always talked to him about checking availability of mods for the 8....Anyway.. I called him about checking the car out for me, and he said he would, he told me he owned a 93 TT FD a few years ago so it looks like he'd be able to catch what I missed.

speeddemon7 01-26-05 04:01 PM

Smart move having a friend coming with you to check out the car.
Lemme get this straight. The owner of the car put in 22 thousand dollars into the car and all there is to show for it is a air intake that cost 200 bucks and a boost gauge that costs maybe 150 if that? I call nullshit on that one.
What the fuck did the guy put into the car? a 3 rotor? LOL
Seriously man. 22 grand is a lot of dough. The car should be fully modded,
new motor, new turbos or single turbo, nice v mount, downpipe, midpipe catback apex power fc,tuned, new pain ,new shocks and springs new wheels, maybe even a body kit.Thats what I would expect for a car that supposedly has 22 grand invested in it.
Hell I have about 3 thousand invested in aftermarket parts and heres what I have to show for it
Blitz Intakes,Blitz Catback,Blitz blow off valve,Blitz blm boost gauge,Blitz Injectors
Greddy boost controller,SS Downpipe,Peter Farrel Stock mount intercooler,Aluminum AST,Greddy 2 piece pipe kit,
