Midpipe question...

Would my FD still get boost creep and other related problems with a midpipe if i cut out a section and put a high flow cat in the mid pipe. I was thinking of doing this and using VW's exhaust clamps. That way whenever it goes just 2 unhooks and pop in a new one. What do you think?

Every car has different results some are lucky some are not....but most likely runnign with downpipe, your custom midpipe, and catback you probably will be seeing some boost creep. If your going to go through with it make sure you have a boost gauge to check the status.

Thanks for your reply. I will be sure to leave the midpipe to the side and just connect the downpipe and hks carbon-ti exhaust for now.

if you want to be sure to not have boost creep, you could port your wastegate, it would probably solve your problem.

Could I just buy a new wastegate? Like the Tial 38mm from rx7store.net. Thats where I got the midpipe/downpipe combo. Thanks!

no the wastegate is internal on the twins, you can't buy a external bolt on wastegate kit for the twins

A high flow cat will prevent boost creep.

I guess oh well on the external wastegate but... I am deffinitly going to put a highflow in the midpipe. Its registered in Arizona and there are emissions here. Any recommendations for a highflow? I was thinking a magnaflow.

if your going to do that why dont you just buy a high flow cat from the start and save your self the trouble of welding the high flow cat to the midpipe....just food for thought

I have a PFS intake, downpipe, and had a midpipe and HKS Superdragger cat back and didn't have boost creep. I changed the midpipe last summer to a 5" "ultra high flow" Random teck. metallic cat and still don't have boost creep.

Each car is different. You'd have to try a combination to see if you have boost creep. It isn't dangerous, just test at a higher gear - 3rd or 4th. Watch the boost gauge when at wide open throttle. If the boost starts to rise above 5500 RPM instead of being steady or falling slightly you have boost creep.

If you end up with boost creep it's easy to control - you can just add an exhaust restriction (or port the wastegate - which isn't so easy).

I already have the pipes and paying 20 bucks to get a highflow cat welded... or cut out for me so i can clamp it in for easy removal isnt a big deal. Im in the airforce and we have a auto hobby shop on base anyone can use with guys that are paid to help us do stuff to our cars... and 1.25 an hour for a lift with all the tools i could want.

Is it still a mid "pipe" if you put a hi-flow cat in it or does it become a hi-flow cat? ? ? ?

It is still a pipe in the 'middle' of your exhaust setup...so I guess it is a mid pipe and a high flow cat??

I did this same thing...welded a high-flow cat into an RPS midpipe. I cannot comment on the boost creep issue because that wasn't my reason for doing it. I just need an emissions compliant car.
