NJ mid pipe question

hello everyone

im looking to upgrade my exhaust system. so far i have a down pipe and an exhaust muffler, she sounds nice but i want something different. i was thinking the mid pipe and was wondering if anyone has it and knows how much of a difference it makes both loudness wise and HP wise, and also my uncle works at meineke and said for 80 bucks hell cut out my stock cat and replace it with a straight pipe ( just like a mid-pipe ) do you guys think thats a good idea or should i just buy the mid pipe? and what do u guys think about replacing it with a high flow cat from magnaflow?

thanks for the ideas in advanced

-Tony

If your car is stock and you put a midpipe on and you dont have a aftermarket cpu installed, you will blow your engine..

^-- Everything 7_rocket said, plus you'll need a ported wastegate to control the boost. An aftermarket ECU won't be able to control the boost with the stock WG.

Also, FWIW, my resonated midpipe sounds a ton better than my old Bonez cat did.

a high flow cat will be okay with a stock ECU/waste gate FD, within reason. If you go with a high flow cat, you'll have to be extra careful with the intercooler you go with, until you get a tuneable ECU.

You can expect to get ~1.5psi of boost creep with a HF cat, which will put your stock ECU right on the limit or what it can handle.

well i have a Power FC and a greddy front mount kit, my car isnt tuned yet, im taking it over to KDR early July to have it tuned. im also wrapping my down pipe with heat wrap and i wanted to do my midpipe, but from the looks of it im just gunna have to wrap the stock part, have u had any experience with with heat wrap? good idea? bad idea?

While your FD is at KDR, you could always have them port the wastegate. Then you'll be alright to run a midpipe with no problems. If you do decide to run a midpipe, as much as it pains me to say this, I reccomend getting the RX7store.net Magnaflow resonated midpipe. It sounds incredible. Better order it now if you plan on having your car tuned by July though.

My downpipe is heat wrapped, but it was already like that in the hatch of my car when I bought it. I never drove the car with the stock precat on either, so I can't really comment on the actual process of wrapping the downpipe or any advantages of doing so.
