Maybe bad engine? help

so i tried to start my car and got a grinding noise. i already had a thread about the noise, but then a friend has told me that he started my car while i was gone while the front end was jacked up... i dont know why. but i have heard that being jacked up and started could kill the engine. can anyone confirm this?

Don't believe everything you hear......why oh why would starting your car with the front jacked up in the air harm the motor? what happens when you go up a steep hill?

+1^ you and only you should start the car, unless your one of the people who go overseas or something.. get a trust worthy friend to just start the car once in awhile..

That's quite comical. I hope you didn't beat your friend up, because he didn't do anything wrong.

Not sure who told you that starting an FD with the front end up will ruin the engine? After installing my engine and ensuring all fluids are topped off, I started it to check for leaks.

It was still on jacks and nothing became of it. Had the engine running for at least 7-8 minutes no problems. Maybe in your case it could be different, starter teeth grinding against flywheel?
