Uhh, I have no screws? I am not that dumb. I am saying I have nothing under my bumper, just holes. The car came like that.

What I am saying is that I have nothing existing under my bumper, which means I have no hardware I guess. Guess I will have to rig something.

I know. I was just being a jackass :)

Seriously, it's the same screws that hold on the other lip types, and like the other said, brake ducts. They're about $40/ea IIRC.

Gil, I'm not arguing w/ you over fitment, but I'm 99.99% sure the R1 and R2 front lips are indeed different. Living only a few min from PFS, I've seen a TON of diff FDs, the vast majority of which are 93s. You know how I almost immediately spot R2s (from R1s), whether it be at the shop or at local meets? The lip. The R1 lip is more flat, much more like a splitter. The R2 lip is much more rounded I guess you can say? And the material it's made of looks a lot more like rubber than the plasticy look off the R1 lip. Def. apparently different if you know what you're looking for (I have a 94 R2, so I noticed the diff off the bat).

dark phoenix 01-13-05 10:49 PM

R1/R2, R2D2 it's all the same lip just a different name.

Narfle 01-14-05 01:00 AM

dude, the 93 94 and 95 lips are round. the splitter you refer to is the 99spec. and im 100% positive.

RX7UP 01-14-05 01:54 AM

Gotta get me a R1 lip!

dgeesaman 01-14-05 04:51 AM

R1 and R2 cars have the same lip. Same part number, same thing.

It's the 99 specs that are a little different.

I think you may be confusing the R1 lip and the 99 lip. My R1 lip was nice and rounded, while the 99 is more angular. I have talked to Ray hundreds of times while dealing with him at the shop, and he never mentioned anything other than the R1 lip.

EFS.O 01-14-05 06:55 AM

So,is there any fellow member, kind enough to by one for me,and ship it to Greece?
I can pay with paypal..

RX 4 Speed 01-14-05 08:54 AM

General question about Ray @ Malloy... what other parts does he sell besides R1 lips? I am guessing ALL OEM parts for our FD's? If so, that is great... if parts go out on me, I will know where to get them.

thanks.

Hmmm. It's not that I don't believe you guys... I just highly doubt ALL those other cars I've seen were running 99spec lips - and I know what the 99spec lip looks like. Guess I'm gonna have to go back and check again?

reinhart 01-14-05 11:01 AM

r1 lip ordered

Just ordered mine. Ray says he is out of stock at the moment, but says he has more coming in next week and will ship it then. $106 plus change shipped. Thanks for letting us all know.

LAracer 01-14-05 11:05 AM

Guess I ordered mine just in time. Thanks for this tip GoodfellaFD3S :)

keynote22 01-14-05 11:09 AM

I got mine ordered :D
Thanks for the info goodfella!
I just got off the phone with him.
Malloy is the first official sponsor of the Revolution this year... more great deals on site (a whole truck load he said ):D

It's possible that the original R1 and R2 lips had a different finish, but replacement part is the same.

The screws that hold on the lip are the same ones that hold on the belly pan. If you have a belly pan, then you have at least some of the hardware. The bolts that hold it on are the same 10mm thread pattern as the rest of the car. You can get them at any hardware store. The clips that the bolts go into can be purchased from any Mazda dealer for about $1.50 each.

I had to drop my belly pan to get enough leverage to get the new lip to snap into place. I was not able to get the little hooks to eaisily push thru the plastic. The hooks act to hold the lip in place if you remove the belly pan to work on something underneath.

You better put one on unless you've fabbed or ducted a substitute.

The OEM screws are just washer-head screws (10mm drive, M4(?) thread) and any fitting screw and fender washer work fine. In fact, get stainless since the stock ones rust.

Ramy, the parts list from '95 shows there was only one part number for all R models. If they had two different varieties available, there would be two numbers and info on which build dates get which.

Dave, ok I guess I stand corrected... :) (I'm STILL gonna keep an eye out for 'em tho LOL... <----stubborn :p: )

Well for example you saw my R2 at the BBQ and I had refinished mine. So it looked close, but not the same. I know a lot of folks do it.
