limp Mode? no codes :/ JDM RX7 single conversion
 

Hello @ all,

got a couple of poblems!!!

As some of you may know ive converted my fd to single Turbo with a big SOB Holset HE 500! ... Turbo spools very good, and is very loud :) ... BUT with this conversion i removed the ratsnest / secondary throttlebodies and so on..

well im on a Stock ECU with a Pan speed setup and i use a Emanage Ultimate for tuning! Please dont answere my question with -> you wouldnt have those issues with a Apexi Power FC as im really pleased with the ulitmate and i would like to keep it! Anyways...

I reconected the following solenoids as i think those may cause limp mode

42: Turbo Precontrol
43: Wastegate Control
45: Charge Control

So .. .car starts up fine... idles a bit high (1250 when warm) but thats ok as i think i need to adjust the idle (used to be like that with the twins as well and never had any problems.. engine has a streetport btw) no smoke no whatsoever

took it for a ride set the boost to 0.3 on the wg...

Well ... drove out of the garage... let the engine warm up ... an thought i would take it for a ride to see if everything works ok! didnt want to see any boost as im running on a base map just wanted to see if engine is ok no leaks no CEl and so on... well it was a short ride -.-

car sputters like hell as soon as i open throttle for more than 15 % :(
starts backfiring no power at all
biggest pressure i could se was -0.18 bar negative...
i could rev it up only real slow even when i wasnt driving... otherwise it would cut out and start misfiring...

when i drive the car and leave the second gear for example and dont switch into third and let it rev up until like... 4000 rpm i can see the A/F ratio lean out! as soon as i step on it i think it totaly leans out and cuts off...

Tried to pull codes... jumperd ten and GND but no blinking CEl no nothing....

does anyon have any ideas!?

42, 43, 45 will not cause limp mode.

I don't know about tuning tricks but your problem reminds me a little too much of when I had injector problems.

What size injectors? Make sure your ECU is tuned to the correct injectors.

yeah thats what i thought... kinda seems like the secondaries do not come on... :/ that would be my first guess... but what could be the reason for that?

ive got stock injectors in there... got 2 1600 tp fit after i get the motor running as it should and ill put the secondaries on the primary rail...

Injectors can stick closed (lean) or open (rich). I had my troubles after taking a few weeks to complete a vacuum hose job and getting my injectors cleaned at a local shop who couldn't test their results.

Whatever the cause was, it's important for these injectors to be cleaned by a shop that can also test them for proper flow and pattern and to install them as soon as practical.

Have you checked fuel pressure?

stuck injectors... mhhh... ill hook up 12v to test them... if ill hear em clicking their fine right? fuelpressure :/ how can i check that? install a fuelpressure reg.? an look at the gauge?

Check your boost pressure sensor hoses.

boost pressure sensor is ok! mhh i eliminated the ful pressure solenoid! and hooked up the fpr directly to the upper manifold! could that have anythink to do with that?

That should be fine. A loose boost sensor hose may have some of the symptoms you are seeing.

It does sound like limp mode to me.
Tuning is way above my small brain, but why not try unhooking the Emanage and with JUST the stock ECU see if you get any code(s).

Ok ... ill check tomorrow without the ultimate if it will throw any codes!

What sensors from the ratsnest would cause limp mode if removed! Does anyone know?

Boost sensor is ok double checked it :D

I thought mine was in limp mode but turned out to be injector issues, it can give similiar issues.

i guess its either in limpmode or the secondaries arent working for some reason :/ maybe their stuck closed... i will check if they click tomorrow so that i can sort that out...

keep also in mind that ive removed all the solenoids from the ratsnest exept the 3 i mentioned above (i put them back on as i read in another thread that they would cause limp mode -.-) ... Now i dont know if that throws me into limp mode as i dont have a PFC... :/ Fuel pressure should be fine... im running dual fd3s oem pumps fully rewired straight from the battery!

There IS NO LIMP MODE with PFC. How have you checked for codes? Maybe your CEL bulb was taken out like mine.... If your testing the diagnostic self test way put a led light in your jumper wire to count the flashes.

yeah i know :D thats why im saying that because i dont have a PFC it could be throwing me into limpmode ...

hey thanks thats a great idea.. cel light def. could have been taken out as as i said before no blinks at all ... and im pretty sure there should be some codes as ive removed air pump / cat / rats nest etc. .... so ill jumper ten and ground and hook up a led with the negative side on the jumper wire right?

Yeah, Hooking the PFC will probably take it out of limp mode if thats what it is, but thats a expensive fix to a possibly bad problem that could cause problems down the road if not fixed.

Those codes will most likely throw you in limp mode.

What you can do it disconnect your battery and hit the brakes a few times to clear the ECU and since you put those things back on it might reset itself.

ok jumpered the ten and gnd. connected a led and the led stays on all the time... no matter if ig. on / off or whatever... no flashing... just on! connected the led to the battery and to the jumper wire... so i couldnt pull no codes... ! resetted ecu ... same! reconnected one more solenoid (on the black connector) resetted ecu again... same! afr is around 10 on idle! is that ok so far? if i step on it cuts off and spits flames out of the exhaust :/ foul plugs? will check now... could limp home mode have foul my plugs? ill keep u posted...

plugs are pitch black! ... not wet though :/ shouldnt they be some brigther colour? because of limp mode? no secondaries and therefore lean conditions?

cleaned up plugs... car starts up even better now and drievs a bit smoother but... wont see positive boost pressure... it just cuts out! ... well ill go home now and post some diagrams to show u how ive hooked things up... maybe that wil help :/ will air pump delete throw u into limp mode?
