Interesting Electrical Problems...

Here's my scenario:

Las weekend I moved my temp sensor from the top of the fill neck to a hole I drilled/tapped just above the thermostat. I had an extra sensor laying around from another water temp gauge I got (same make/model) so I used that as I figured it couldnt hurt to change it. On the first and second drives, the readings were much more dynamic, and seemed to change w/ every blip of the throttle. The temps would range anywhere from 178-210F (all well within normal range). When I hit the fans, the temps would immediately fall - all this behavior is identical to the behavior before I moved the sensor.

Since my car is not my DD, it sat for a good solid 6 days before I was able to drive it again. On the 3rd drive, my temps never got above 150 - now anyone knows, even someone as moronic as me, knows that this engine runs higher than that.

Now at first, I thought this to be a problem w/ the sensor. However, for no reason my alarm started acting up (and by acting up, I mean not working). I fixed that by removing and re-connecting the positive terminal of my batter.

On top of all of this, changed my fan mod a bit to work only when the switch was on (before I had them on all the time).

Now to me, it sounds like the three of these are totally unrelated - perhaps just a bad sensor from autometer. Maybe I'll send it back to rx7store where I got it as per the one year Manufacturer Warranty.

If Jason is on here, how would something like that work?

If you see any connection between these occurences, please help out.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post,

Steve

Start by checking gauge and alarm grounds and power feeds incl. fuses. I've seen alarm systems still half-assed function when their fuses blow, grabbing power through doorpin switches and such. The gauge may have a dirty ground and getting a ground feed through the sensor/thermostat itself.
