insurance costs?

how much do you guys pay for insurance on your FD's? i currently drive a 2000 Honda Prelude and am paying about $600 every 6 months for full coverage on it. I just got quoted on GEICO if I were to add a 94 RX-7 with 130K miles on it for minimum coverage, and my payments shot up to nearly $2000 for 6 months :shocking:

This seems a bit absurd, maybe I didn't do something right, but then again, maybe these cars really do cost that much more to insure?

7_rocket 01-07-08 01:35 PM

That's a lil high. I pay about $1k for 6 months

MGB11 01-07-08 01:36 PM

There are a lot of different factors that go into your insurance quotes (your age, vehicle age, part availibility, type of vehicle, area where you live, ect...) I am right around 500-550 every 6 months for a non-daily driver listing.

bbade 01-07-08 01:36 PM

I pay about $700 a year, although I have it listed as a "pleasure vehicle." I believe it limits me to 5k a year or something, but I don't put nearly that many miles on in a year.

d33 01-07-08 01:39 PM

I pay $90 a year :P for full coverage :0

but cant drive it more than 2000 miles a year, but that is not a problem at all

bbade 01-07-08 01:51 PM

damn 90, get me the hookup :-)

TRISPEEDFD3S 01-07-08 01:58 PM

I drive my car a lot. I pay $195 a month for full coverage through Progressive. I'm 23 if that matters to you. Also, not only does age, location, etc...all the stuff MGB11 mentioned, they also factor in their experience with owners of this type of vehicle.

Maximum 01-07-08 02:08 PM

I have GEICO as well and I pay $600/6 months for full coverage. The rx7 is the only car on the policy. I don't see why your quote is so much higher unless you have a history of driving incidents or you're very young. I'm only 23 and live in southern CA, which would seem like an expensive combo.

I think I would die if I could only drive the 7 2000 miles a year!

spaceman_spiff 01-07-08 02:19 PM

i'm also 23...i have a fairly good driving record i think. my current car (and only) is a 2000 Honda Prelude which comes right under 600 for 6 months of full coverage. what kind of deductibles are you guys running? i just re-quoted it to decline all coverage and do basic insurance on the rx-7 (as an additional car) and it came out to be around 738 for 6 months for both cars.

edit: i live in atlanta

That seems unbelievable to me. I called a collector car insurance place(haggerty) and they gave me a quote of $665 a year for 25k coverage. Also I paid $20 a month just for my 57 VW bug, minimum coverage.
I'll call B.S. on the $90 a year insurance premium.

I use Geico and it costs me about $500 for 6 months, full coverage.

I'll have to check out this Haggerty insurance co...I asked Geico about collector car insurance and I may have well been speaking greek b/c they didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

Anyone use or know of Haggerty? If I switch to them I want to make sure they are going to be there if I ever file a claim

fdeeznutz 01-07-08 03:22 PM

Hey wolfman, P.M. Tom93R1. He has collector car insurance on his 93.

AWD-RWD racer 01-07-08 03:38 PM

i believe i pay 150/160 a month. full coverage 250 deduct. usaa

Tom93R1 01-07-08 03:50 PM

I actually got my collecter insurance through Heacock. Grundy said no and Haggerty said they would have insured me if my daily driver was "significantly newer" than the car I was trying to insure. At the time my daily was an 87 Chevy Sprint turbo so now with my 96 volvo I may try again.

I pay about $300 for 250 deductible full coverage. They would only give me $15k agreed upon value and 3000 miles a year. I am going to try Haggerty again and see what they will do.

4CN A1R 01-07-08 04:38 PM

i would call safe auto for a quote. i have had them for a year now and its great. i pay 270 a month for min coverage on my sentra and full on my fd. i had a mishap that happened to not be my fault and they paid for everything in full in only 3 days time.

MrNizzles 01-07-08 05:14 PM

How the hell is any insurance company going to "enforce" you driving the car "more" than what you say in your quote?

I suppose that if you get in an accident and the mileage on the car is far greater than what the mileage was reported when you purchased it, thus averaging out to be more than the 2K or 5K you were "supposed" to drive it... then they would know. And even then, so lets say they do the math and figure that you drove an extra 1K or 2K more than you should have, so that means they will automatically drop your coverage in the event of an accident?

:fingersx: Car Insurance people

d33 01-07-08 05:30 PM

Think my coverage is with Safe Auto, not sure, the wife is a insurance brooker and she did the deal.

I am pretty sure that it is going up to 180 next renewal.

Hmm, with a rate like that just buy a couple more of them. :)

I get a statement to record and send back the mileage every year. I'm sure if I made a claim the first thing they'd look for is agreement in mileage.

My wife and I have 4 cars (including the 7), and we pay about 170/month with a 150.00 deductable. Thats full coverage on everything, but I have no idea what our limits are. I can say this, the cost only went up about 20 bucks when I added the 7. I can remember the days when full coverage on my escort was 350 a month, with a 1000 deductable.

I am sooo glad those days are gone. :D

Andrew. 01-07-08 06:02 PM

I believe I pay $600 a year for full coverage. That was when I was 19, I'm 20 now, so it should have gone down a bit. I have the good student discount and multiple-vehicle discount. You know what's strange though, I pay $700/ year for my FC, it's an NA, it's 22 years old, and its only for liability, weird, huh?

AAA Insurance, btw.

SLOASFK 01-07-08 06:05 PM

lucky ass married people

I'm paying $320/year for my FD for minimum coverage(it's been off the road since I bought it, almost 2 years ago)

Yep, I definitely fit that profile. I payed my dues though, so I don't mind bragging a little. :D

spandy 01-07-08 07:07 PM

About 600.....a YEAR. Full coverage, 100 comp, 500 collision.

silverflash2 01-07-08 07:25 PM

I have geico and have Ford contour svt as my primary and the FD. I pay $123-130 a month full coverage.

cp1 01-07-08 08:29 PM

in canada i went from being quoted $2640 per year under private insurance in alberta to $1230 per year under Government insurance in Saskatchewan. Yay for public insurance!!! and it doesnt matter how much i drive it or whoever else i let drive it.

adam c 01-08-08 12:23 AM

I feel bad for some of you younger guys. High insurance rates, and nothing you can do about it. That sucks. You can thank bad young drivers for the high rates.

I pay about $340 a year for full coverage, with high liability limits.

staticguitar313 01-18-08 03:37 AM

i'm possibly looking into making the leap from FC to FD here shortly if all goes well, I'm paying $110 a month full coverage on my FC i dont see anyone on here from az to compare to.

(BTW i'm 21)

Cerocool 01-18-08 07:49 AM

Wow.. Some of you are paying quite a bit. But I believe most of you are <25 which rates are much higher. I'm paying $630/six months for 3 cars. Oh and I'm 26, single.

'01 S4 (Full coverage)
'93 FD (full coverage)
'95 A6 (minimum but my daily driver)

When I added my FD my premium only went up $210/six months ($35/month)

DCrosby 01-18-08 10:29 AM

I have:
93 FD ---- Full Coverage $500 Deductible
06 Eclipse --- Full Coverage $500 Deductible
96 Jeep Cherokee -- Liability

I pay $1333.00 / 6 Mo.

32, Married, House on same Policy, but additional payment, In Southern California, with Mercury. If anybody is in insurance and has a better deal please feel free to call me :D

Due to the house I also have higher liability coverage, so if I ding a Ferrari, I don't loose my house...
Liability is what was killing me especially on the Jeep, to add full coverage to the Eclipse and the FD were like $120 / 6mo. per car... but each car costs about $300+ of liability for 6 mo.

afgmoto1978 01-18-08 10:38 AM

I have:

93FD --- Full Coverage
Mazda 323 - Full Coverage
98 Dodge dakota - Full coverage
05 GSXR1000 - Full Coverage

Grand total - $504 a Month

Yeah, my driving records is fucked.

93silverbullet 01-18-08 11:27 AM

I have American Family Insurance with full coverage ($250 deductable) with a rider for direct cost replacement ($25K at the moment) for the FD and we pay 450 a year. Of course I'm a "little" older than most on this forum and have four other cars insured; '06 E55 MB (wife's daily driver), '05 Acura TL (my daily), 03 Acura RSX (daughter's car), and '93 FD.

NissanConvert 01-18-08 11:32 AM

800/6mos -Full coverage, don't recall my deductibles though.

goz 01-18-08 12:08 PM

i pay 630 euro ,got open insurance/drive

paradoxbox 01-18-08 09:02 PM

i'm paying 330 a month for 1mil liability and 300$ comp deductible, no collision. never had any accidents either, it's fucking robbery. thing is this province has a monopoly on vehicle insurance, imo it should be illegal to have it set up like they do here. considering registering the vehicle elsewhere to avoid it.

FD3Smaniac 01-18-08 09:59 PM

im 19 and i pay 1800 for collision and theft/vandalism coverage... no medical (gotta protect the car first), and thats 6 months... now not only do they base it on everything listed... but some companies do credit scores. and i go through progressive

NeoTuri 01-18-08 10:21 PM

93 FD - ~600/yr - full coverage

Tafumi 01-18-08 10:38 PM

I've got minimum insurance on it as it's stuck in the garage right now. But I pay about 90 bucks a month. I don't want to know what I'll be paying once I get her back on the road.

Meanwhile, I pay almost 200 a month on my DD.

I'm 25, never had a ticket or been in an accident. The downside, I'm only recorded as driving in the US for a combined 3 years or so. The other 8 or so years were in Japan, S.Korea, Germany and England. They don't like that. So they use it as an excuse to hike my rates.

I did have a claim against my current DD. My friend traded paint between my passengers side door (while opening it to get out) with a Benz. Worst of all, the Benz owner was sitting in the car when he did it. And while I (and the man driving) both agreed that the contact caused absolutely no damage aside a smudge the size of half a penny, GEICO (both our company's) decided the entire door needed repainted.

JustinStrife 01-19-08 12:41 AM

I currently have 5 vehicles under my insurance policy with USAA.

01' Corvette Auto(Salvage Title) Full Coverage= $160 every 6 months.
00' Corvette 6spd(Clean Title) Full Coverage = $250 every 6 months
93' RX-7 R1(Salvage Title) Liability = $70 every 6 months
90' 240sx(Salvage Title) Liability = $40 every 6 months
96' Chevy Z71(Salvage Title) Liability = $60 every 6 months

Not a good representation, but that's what they cost me in insurance...

Edit: Also, I'm 27 with a perfect driving record and have had my license since May of 96'. So I have a long driving history.

afgmoto1978 01-19-08 12:47 AM

^ Jesus, think you have enough fast cars?! Though, I would do the same if I could afford it, lol.

IamRobbyah 01-19-08 12:58 AM

I'm payin $50 a month for full coverage. I have the FD as a pleasure vehicle though. God bless USAA :icon_tup:

Edit: forgot to mention, I have no cap on milage =]

There was a 4 year gap where I didn't have a girlfriend. I had to blow my paycheck somewhere... Notice how all but 1 of the vehicles has a salvage title. I did alot of insurance auction buying, you can get stuff real cheap that way. :icon_tup:

The 01' C5 I sold to my dad to buy the 00'(though it's still in my name and my insurance policy), the RX7 and S13 have been a 2-3 year works in progress. Picked up a girlfriend last year, and suddenly my projects went to a grinding halt. :wallbash:

FD should be back on the road by the end of the month though. :lol2:

Richmond VA
Single, Age 26
1993 Mazda MX6 LS..... Liability (Daily)
1993 Mazda Rx7 Full coverage w/500 (pleasure vehicle)
One speeding ticket (they go back 3 or 5 years i think)

$68/ month with Geico

Red95FD 03-28-08 02:30 PM

I pay $444.00 a year for my 1995 RX-7, $510.00 a year a 2001 Honda Prelude SH, and $580.00 a year for a 2003 Acura MDX. I ask why the Honda was so much and they said b/c there are tons os accidents with that car and the parts are expensive. That figures. I've had one accident in 25 years and it wasn't my fault. But the lady that hit me had the same insurance. So that might not be good. I have Nationwide. My ins. was going up at one time so I sent out emails to alot of companies including mine and all of a sudden my ins. with Nationwide dropped about 20%. Either it was a coincedence or they didn't want to lose me since I was fishing for better prices. Who knows?

Jesus loves rotaries 03-29-08 11:10 AM

120 a month full coverage its a daily driver so i dont know how its so low.
