Inexpensive Oil Cooler, thougths?

http://www.siliconeintakes.com/image...ck_picture.jpg

Seems very reasonably priced considering a replacement OE unit is over $500 (as are many aftermarket units).

This particular one is 19 row and ~ 11''x12''. Anybody recommend an alternate size for an R1 replacement/upgrade? For my specific application, I have an OE bumper. http://www.frozenboost.com/product_i...3e75d4d78f1080

Here are all the different sizes available with frozenboost: http://www.frozenboost.com/index.php...3e75d4d78f1080

Its rated to 120 PSI. is 120 PSI enough to support the FD's oil pressure?

Price is good, can't say to much about the quality since I don't know anyone running them. Usually cheap and good don't go hand in hand though. If you are interested, I do have a HKS dual oil cooler with ducts coming over for $999 (MSRP 1750).

Good question. Anyone regularly monitor their FD pressure under circuit/track conditions?

Funny, considering you're a vendor in the business of dealing in expensive parts JDM parts.

EDIT: Who used the word "cheap"? You.

personally i wouldnt run that, you can get stock coolers on here all day from 30 to 50 bucks. The stock coolers also have a thermostat built in which is nice. Check this thread out it might interest you if your trying to save some money. https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/dual-oil-coolers-cheap-633480/

Whether it was your intent or not, this came across to a casual reader as a bit of sour grapes and whining. All Pure did was make a remark that many people follow as rule of thumb...and that is 9 times out of 10 that quality = higher price.

These might be the greatest oil coolers of all time...but if price is a concern for you, perhaps you should buy them, try them out, and let the rest of us know how they work. Sounds like you want someone else to guinea pig.

Also, Pure provides a SERVICE and while his prices may seem expensive to you, I believe many of us can attest that not only does he deliver hard to find items for a very FAIR price, more importantly he does so with great service and hasn't screwed anyone over like several other JDM importers.

I'm genuinely trying to grasp what the intent was behind your post to Pure as I previously noted, it came across as a personal shot at him and his business. I hope I'm misconstruing this through the words you wrote.

Personally I don't like to be on the bleeding edge.

The context of 'Bleeding edge' being I don't know anyone that uses them, have not seen one myself and don't know what kind of quality they are.

120 PSI is not enough. My FD runs 120 PSI at idle when cold.
(going to use some lighter oil to rectify that)

Mocal coolers are all tested to 170 psi - http://www.batinc.net/coolers.htm

Setrab coolers are also very good, and considered the 'gold' standard by many.
Ferrari uses them in their cars.

They are not cheap, but certainly not $500. More like $200 each for a similar size IIRC.

Is the oil system someplace you want to skimp to save a few bucks?

Doesn't seem like a good place to experiment with cheap parts, at least not for me.

Fluidyne are the best value priced cooler that I have personal experience using. They work fine and are at least as good as stock. They may also have an advantage at low airflow due to their wider fins, which again is similar to stock. (vs. Earls, Mocal or Setrab)

You should definitely run an oil thermostat.

I never said the quality of the part was cheap. The link you provided stated the oil cooler was $90, that is very "inexpensive" for an oil cooler. That is why I explicitly said I never used one or heard of people using it so I was unaware of the quality. Like someone else suggested, I would use the OEM oil cooler before using that. I am not saying that their aren't great parts that are cheap, but seeing very high priced items I can attest to paying for the craftsmanship and quality of an individual part. That is just my OPINION and personal preference.

While you may believe our parts are expensive, they are all severely marked down from MSRP - not my fault they have high retail values in Japan. Not to mention all the other associated costs with importing parts that people are unaware of.

Thanks Kev, I don't believe he meant it as a personal attack.
