Smile Ignition Question

After spending the last 2 days on the dyno, at higher boost (18psi), the engine breaks up @ 6,ooo rpm. The a/f is fine (tried 11.1 to 11.8), tried different timing (anywhere from +5 to +14 lead, 8 degree split). At 12 psi the motor makes 325 rwhp and sings to you. AEM, greddy 20g, intercooler, exhaust, 1000/1600 injectors. My thoughts are that the ignition is breaking up and can't handle the higher boost level with stock coils/ignitor and plugs. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

You are probably right. The HKS Twinpower solved the same problem for me.

That wouldn't be surprising to me. I've had similar problems with a few cars that I helped setup. The two things you need to focus on are chamber pressure and charge time available. Therefore what might work fine at 6000rpms at 10 psi or 4000 rpms at 18 psi may not work at 6000rpms and 18psi.

Chamber pressure is the highest at the torque peak. That falls right around the range you are having problems at. If you upgrade the igniton, you really only need to focus on the leading coils. Also, try to get an amplifier that is designed (or proven) to work with a rotary. Remember, with a piston engine you have 1 spark under load per cylinder every other revolution. With a rotary you have 1 spark per revolution, so the amplifier has to do more work.
