Ignition problem engine wont crank using the key

my car sat awhile then i replaced my engine, and now it wont crank over with the key.

The igntion turns on, but in the start position it doesnt send power to the solenoid on the starter. Tempararily i have a wire hooked to the solenoid that goes to a swtiched +12v in order to crank the car over..

Any idea why it isnt working when i turn the key? anyone else ever run into this?

go clean out the ignition assembly...dale clark has a nice write up on doing just that!

since you can start it by jumping the ignition its not the starter its just a matter of cleaning the contacts in the switch or maybe getting a new one if its fried...

good luck

Could be the clutch switch, or any number of things in the start circuit.
