Question Idemitsu

have anyone here used this oil before? If so what are the pro/cons of it. I just recently purchase some and would like to get more info before I pour it in the engine.

Finding out about it before you buy it is prob the smarter route Look up GoodfellaFD3s. He's been using it for a while. He's got a thread about it too.

I think the Idemitsu oil's weight is around 20W50, which is "kinda" hard to get with a fossil oil. I know that Valvoline VR1 has that weight, and Ive been using it for 4 years with no problems...

20w50 is widely available, it is as common as 5 or 10w30. Idemitsu comes in both 20w50 and 10w30, as well as other weights I would imagine.

Vonn, I got your PM. I really like the oil, car runs great on it. Not sure if it is better than some of the other good synths like amsoil or redline, but the fact that it is made for our engine gives me a warm fuzzy feeling

i run idemitsu full synth 20w50 in my ported non-seq.

I wasnt sure which oil to use so I called the guys who rebuilt my engine (rotorsports) and just asked them what they would use and they recommended idemitsu.

I actually cant notice a difference between this oil and whatever the previous owner used (or not much of a difference) but it costs an arm and a leg and was designed just for the rotary so at least I have peace of mind...
But in all honesty I think just buying royal purple or any other trusted synth would be just as good, because idemitsu is EXPENSIVE. So I agree with goodfella pretty much

http://www.idemitsu-usa.com/ I like their rotary lube it's like two stroke oil but they reccomend only 1/2 ounce per gallon going to try it on my next motor. Also like the fact it is formulated for a rotary engine.

they used to sponser our race team. Its the largest oil company in japan, they make most of the o.e.m. oil for all import vehicles, and its they only synth oil made for a rotary. Otherwise you are not supossed to use synth. 20w-50 is what I use. The owner of the company is really into rotarys and was part of the decsion to bring Idemitsu to retail in the U.S. with rotary only oil and premix. If this oil sells well people will see a full line of oil for "pistons" in the future. It is pricey but everything on the car is pricey.

the following quote from:

http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fdengine_maintenance.html

Never heard of Idemitsu oil? Don’t be too surprised. After 90 years, Idemitsu has just made itself available to the American public. Here are a few things you probably didn’t know:
• Largest Japanese oil manufacturer in the world.
• Exclusive supplier to all Japanese OEMs.
• Largest producer of custom blended oils.

• Supplier of custom competition blended oils for Mazda’s racing efforts.

What does this mean to us Rotarians? Now we can use the oils that is based on technology that helped Mazda win the 24 hours of LeMans. Nothing speaks better for oil’s effectiveness than the ability to survive that extreme punishment. We’ve tested this oil in both of our race cars. Our world famous RX7.COM “Stars and Stripes” championship winning car puts severe stresses on the engine bearings. We’ve never had any problems whatsoever with Idemitsu oils. Being turbocharged and nitrous-fed, there is no harder test for an oil. In addition, Ken Scheepers has relied on Idemitsu oils to keep his RX7.COM sponsored All-Motor engine together. Now that you know the name, buy a few bottles, your engine will thank you.

Viscosity recommendations:
- 10W30 for all-motor rotaries
- 20W50 for all turbo applications
- Premix is for all rotary applications
