ID this interesting true dual exhaust.

Have any of you guys seen this before?

I ran across this while shopping for a titanium exhaust, it's an interesting looking set up and I'm thinking about purchasing it all just for the sake of curiosity. The downpipe resembles a KnightSport style downpipe except it doesn't collect into one pipe, then from mid pipe back I've never seen an exhaust like it. Note that I'm not 100% sure it's a FD exhaust either. I'm trying to picture how this would look fully installed from a underbody point of view, having a tough time piecing together the image.

Neat. Looks heavy.

Agreed, twice the normal piping, but probably still a bit lighter than the massive lump that is the stock exhaust.

True sir, but it's about as close as it'll get unlike the dual Kakimoto's and Apexi's.

a truly rare piece, I have almost all the HyperRev magazines for the Rx7 and don't recall seeing one like this.

If you do buy it, be sure to post feedback.... i.e. weight, fitment, materials, construction quality, sound etc.

PandazRx-7 06-26-12 05:56 PM

I don't see a midpipe in those pics... To me it looks like the cat-back is a 2 piece design. I could be wrong...

LoneStarS30Z 06-26-12 06:20 PM

The mid-section is the 2nd picture. It splits and stays with 2 separate pipes starting about 1/3rd down the downpipe all the way out the back.

I'll see if I can take a stab at getting it. I'm deployed til September, but I should be able to get a good friend to help out.

Yeah man...that is pretty cool.

GoodfellaFD3S 06-26-12 07:20 PM

I don't think that is for a third gen RX-7. The downpipe looks to be the correct piece, but I don't see how the middle section (and probably the rear section) will fit into the transmission tunnel on an FD.

adam c 06-26-12 10:58 PM

I'm looking at that and can't think of one reason anyone would want it. It has to be way heavier than anything else. If you want more exhaust flow, a larger diameter pipe would be much better............ IMO

LoneStarS30Z 06-27-12 11:49 AM

But ofcourse, nothing's going to really beat the usual single exhaust set up.

But I have a stainless steel Trust exhaust, and a Kinghtsport unit, and now I'm on the hunt for a full titanium cat-back, I figured for the price, why not try it?

I have seen that before, but I don't know who makes it. It is JDM for sure, of course.

Pretty cool piece regardless! Hope it actually fits :).

I'm curious about the sound ..

LoneStarS30Z 06-28-12 05:51 PM

Any of you guys have clear pictures of the under belly of your cars? Google Images is being useless, I'm trying to see if the exhaust hangers match the stock locations, especially the mid-section.

MR_Rick 06-30-12 01:45 AM

I'm with Dale. I seen this before but can't remember where at.

LoneStarS30Z 06-30-12 04:28 AM

Cool, so atleast 2 people have see it before. I'm wondering though if it doesn't fit, what the heck would it belong to?

blmcquig 06-30-12 05:12 AM

well, according to rx7boutique, mazdaspeed, knightsports, and autoexe all made dual pipe downpipes sort of like that, but it doesn't look like any of those particular ones with a dual pipe flange. they all ended up right back at a single exit flange. not sure about the rest of the stuff though, but maybe someone bought one of the above downpipes, and had a go at a custom project?
Would the flange at the turbo side be the same for an FD and a cosmo? maybe it was meant for that instead? I'm just curious now as well.

LoneStarS30Z 06-30-12 05:45 AM

I actually thought maybe it's for Cosmo too, the mid-section seems too wide for a FD and still be able to tuck near the driveshaft.

There's only way to find out! I won't know until September unfortunately.

Edit: I'm too sure about a Cosmo either, looks like it's got the space, but I don't know about angle of the downpipe to the mid section:

Looks like the system would too short.

LoneStarS30Z 07-13-12 02:54 AM

Just got an email from my supplier, looks like it's a KnightSport unit. I'll find out for sure and see if it actually fits in a couple months when I'm back from the sandbox.
