Well I appreciate all the posts guys! It's helping me realize that I have already put too much money into it to just off and sell it. I am gonna just try to work on one thing at a time and hopefully all goes well.

On a side note: Yesterday I was out driving and the car died on my twice. Then when I hit the freeway, I had it in 4th gear at WOT. As soon as it hit around 4000rpms it backfired worse than I have ever heard, the car surged and then just stopped spooling and made this horrific sound very similiar to that of a dieing moose. I had the gas nailed to the floor and it just sat there at 4k rpms doing nothing. The gas pedal got really stiff and I couldn't push it down after that. So I threw it into nuetral then back into 4th and It was ok after that. What is going on here? Anyways guys, thank you so much for the support! I am taking it in tomorrow to get it looked at.

I've fallen & can't get up

I have a couple of friends who are RX7 owners. Patrick is a major reason I'm an RX7 owner. Whats worked for me is:

Find a couple of buddies with RX7, get some high quality tools, and both of you help each otherwork on each others cars.

Be proactive in your maintenance. Take MJWs advice and tighten the handle bolts (with loc-tite on the threads) BEFORE it fails. I also have a lot of the same problems. I view my car as a friend who needs lots a help ;-).

Take pictures. Keep organized. If you have some bolt left over after a repair job, find out where it goes and make sure you put it on before heading out on the road. Get the pdfs of the manuals.

Learn simple DC electronics and how to use and interpret a multimeter reading.

Back to your car, a back fire means a bunch of unburned gas got in the exhaust and fired off, right? so maybe ( & I ain't no rotary expert yet, but I've been wrenching on pistons since 1971) the ignition died on ya for a second, and then came back on line. loose connetion on coils? hows the magnetic pickup near the crank sensor. Tight?

Oh yeah read the hell out of this forum. Which you apparently already do. ;-). And buy the wife or G/F (or both) flowers once in a while.

My $.02
Jeff
