I need help with engine codes
I need help with engine codes
So if you've been following my trail of drama, the saga continues; if not, here is the fast version:
bought car 100% stock with 32,500 miles.
drove it home about 1000 miles
put another ~100 miles on it over the weekend.
Monday morning(actually Tuesday, as this was Labor Day weekend, but I hadn't gone to work on Monday, so for all explanatory reasons, we can call it Monday), cel comes on on the way to work. codes 20, 26, 27
replaced OMP, now I only have 27.
now, since then, I've replaced cat-back with HKS Hi Power, ordered down pipe from user on here(haven't yet installed) and purchased/installed Pettit ecu. Just tonight I installed ecu hoping that would get rid of 27. Process goes as such:
1. disconnect negative terminal
2. step on brake pedal for ~20 seconds
3. remove kick plate
4. undo (3) 10mm bolt to loosen ecu
5. unplugged (4) plugs from old harness
6. transferred brackets to "new" ECU
7. reconnected (4) plugs to "new" ecu
8. rebolted ecu to car
9. put kick plate back
10. reconnected battery terminal
11. went inside to pee
12. start car
12.5. (im intentionally making the list ridiculously long for reader's amusement)
13. let it sit for ~10 seconds and watch for CEL
14. no CEL comes on
15. begin backing car out of garage
16. still no CEL
17. drive about 5 blocks in neighborhood
18. still no cel
19. begin smiling
20. get to outer town road where speed limit is 35 but it's safe to go 40-45
21. go 40-45
22. still no cel
23. continue driving around lightly for 10 minutes
24. turn off cell phone 10-minute alarm
25. get to spot where it is safe to go WOT for the first time since the weekend i bought the car (it's been a full month)
26. go WOT and smile
27. shift into second still full throttle
28. shift into third ready to slow down as I approach residential area
29. lightly press brake to slow down.
30. shift into neutral
31. continue braking
31.5. (I hope this hasn't annoyed anyone who has a good amount of information)
32. turn on left turn signal as I am about to turn left.
33. begin turning left and see cel come back on.
34. stop smiling
35. give good amount of throttle in second
36. yup... limp mode
37. bring it back home and park in garage
38. pull out handy-dandy wire to check engine codes
39. put wire in TEN/GND in diagnostic box
40. do the one foot in/one foot out sit in my car and turn the ignition to the "on" position
41. watch for codes
42. cel starts on, then turns off, then stays on indefinitely (take that with a grain of salt... OBVIOUSLY if i left it there until the battery ran out, it would turn off...)
43. remove pin and restart car.
44. CEL still on
45. Disconnect negative battery terminal and step on brake for the length of the chorus of "everybody talks" by neon trees playing in my head
46. reconnect battery terminal
47. restart car.
48. no immediate light
49. begin backing out of garage
50. within 8 feet of reverse, CEL is back
51. pull the car back in
52. reconnect pin to TEN/GND to recheck code
53. get the same SOLID light with no blinking after initial on/off/on sequence
54. look online for any answers from my smart phone
55. no luck
56. put pin and tools away
57. debate lowering hood/leaving hood up
58. leave hood up
59. come inside and ask my wife is she's about done with pinterest (i wonder if this is the first time pinterest is mentioned on rx7club.com)
60. do a thorough search for "check engine light solid diagnostic" and other searches with similar keywords
61. type out this long-winded plead for help.
62. remind myself to say thanks in advance for all your help
