I just got Garfinkle Torque Brace.... Must Have!!!
I just wanted to pass on my experience with MR. Garfinkle.
I was over at his place all day today and got one of his famous torque brace.. I have heard so much about this and thought, why not.. and price was super reasonable.. especially after installation and test drive. Shifting seems to be more accurate.. and just over all feel of the car seem.. CRISP.. I don't know how else I could describe it.. On my 200+ mile journey back to Bham, I was just amazed by how much smoother and crisp the car seemed.. I highly recommend his brace.. and its pretty much true about what others have said on other threads... Call him and get one.. |
Post pics, brother!

Here are some pics of my NEW brace..
I didn't get a chance to paint them.. I'll do that next week. Far as quality, I have to say, "just look at the size of the plate". Its by far thickest plate and mounting brackets I have seen.. for a torque brace. http://homepage.mac.com/mrccal122803...864F6A11D8.jpg http://homepage.mac.com/mrccal122803...0C4F6A11D8.jpg http://homepage.mac.com/mrccal122803...084F6A11D8.jpg |
Do these add stress to other parts of the car? I was thinking of gettting one, but was told it would add undue stress to the tranny.
|
Ok... So how does this compare to other braces? I notice this one is not adjustable like others.. Do people load the braces on certain applications?

If you think of it this way, I think you will see that this brace is more benificial to the tranny than possible undue stress you might of heard. I'm pissed that I didn't get it sooner.. I been telling people.. Few mods that I have done really made difference.. PFC, HKS twin power, and Garfinkle Torque brace.. |

Track, pretty much the same reason.. normal daily driver, it helps from stripping your 5th gear synchros. Its not adjustable.. But its does have rubber bushing that helps absorb some shock. Try it and I think you'll see what I mean.. |
Solid motor mounts :bigthumb:

its not adjustable because its tailor made for "YOUR" car. there is no need for it to be "preloaded". that will end up causing problems. by preloading the brace you add stress to the fender well AND the UIM.
phil is right. . . this brace benefits everyone. solid motor mounts are plainly unbearable on a street car. theres another reason for have the ETB mounted on your car. . . especially is this location. the higher the brace the more supported the engine is. if you have a bus and you take a sharp turn in it. . . the bus will flip. this is why test cars are seen with long rails extending way beyond the sides of the car. . . usually found on SUV's. with those rails the SUV rocks over, but does not flip. so. . . you can apply that to the engine. the brace on the compression side of the engine. when you throttle over, the engine doesnt move as much. this benefits a lot of things. by having a sound car that doesnt shift and move around you have a tighter, better handling car. this is why people are talking about the car feeling different in corners and such. by ADDING another mount. . . you are strengthening the engines mounting apparatus. . . (did i spell that right?:D) paul |

i don't agree with claiming his brace to be the end all-
i think you should rename this, just got a "torque" brace as you are describing the results from simply having a stiff engine why not try some real motor mounts and then post results :) |
Is there a place to buy this online? Or do you have to call garfinkle and order one over the phone, plus how much is it? thanks

Once I get my other brake caliper painted I'll head down and get one. I wasn't paying attention to how the car ran with the torque brace in David's car because the thing is raw power and it's soooo much different than stock. As far as I remember it seems tighter. His car is amazing! Absolutely Amazing...
Phil - I'm going to check with that guy tomorrow about the cap. I'll let you know - Jack |

The tq brace works, thats all there is to it. Garfinkle has a very nice setup with the brace. STEPHEN |
A brace is a brace. There are about 5 different models to choose from and they all do the samething.

My friend's uncle had a 600+hp mid 80s 911. Oddly enough, the car was called Rambo  Anyways, he has his own shop, so he fabricated something interesting..... He designed an electric hydraulic torque brace. It was controlled by an ECU which monitored engine RPM and TPS position. The heavier the load...the higher RPM.... the more the brace would push against the engine. Any thoughts on such a system? |

I guess when you have a 600hp street car you might not be counting the pounds though. :D |
I'd be interested to know how many of the people who have slapped this Band-aid on their engines actually bothered to check the condition of their motor mounts and differential mounts beforehand... :)

^ thats what i was wondering jim. you have to make sure everyhtign eles is still good also. cant' just fix one thing if 2 other thing are causing the problem.
