I have terrible, terrible NEWS

on friday just 2 weeks after a year in the making I blow the freaking engine and these are the only friends I have right now along with the 20 something beers I drank friday night I was pissed, gonna crack it open next saturday & see how bad the damage is.

IMPACT 7 11-20-06 04:14 PM

Sucks to hear man, I feel your pain. Don't spend too much on drinking though. The money spent on boos can go towards your rebuild.

purerx7 11-20-06 04:15 PM

what happened?

rynberg 11-20-06 04:18 PM

What do you think happened? What AFRs did your tuner shoot for? Were you pre-mixing?

RX7Junkman 11-20-06 04:28 PM

the tuning is fine frank @ world wide racing in opa locka,FL. yes I am premixing, the engine just didnt hold. it is a 93 and its was just sitting in the previous owners garage since 2000 till 05 when I got it.

rynberg 11-20-06 04:33 PM

How many miles on it? Engines don't just break.....it was only 15 psi on a smaller single turbo.

RX7Junkman 11-20-06 04:35 PM

thats not even the worst news some of U know I had a replacement for this same occasion but sold the engine to someone else.

"SUPPOSEDLY 41K" but I'll know for sure when I crack it open. if u check some of my previous posts I started to suspect that this engine didnt have 41K on it.

badddrx7 11-20-06 04:45 PM

Go with the Bacardi, the other will leave you with a nasty hangover.

GoodfellaFD3S 11-20-06 04:48 PM

Sounds like you had a junk motor, or there is some other problem you're not aware of. Do you have any EGT or AFR readings? At 15 psi you should be able to get lots of mileage out of a 13B.....

RX7Junkman 11-20-06 04:53 PM

my egt reads 10 and the hottest 12

ultmtrx8 11-20-06 04:55 PM

danm sorry to here that, good luck and keep us posted. on what was wrong with the motor

as in 1200 degrees F peak? Your motor should *not* fail at that level. Sounds like you may have had a high mileage/shoddily built motor. How exactly is it blown, what is it doing?

RX7Junkman 11-20-06 05:10 PM

I know I lost the coolant seals alot of white smoke the spark plugs are wet, cant see a thing behind me, cuz of the smoke, and detonated a couple of times.

preludesh2000 11-20-06 05:16 PM

that sucks dude....im waiting for mine to go....i bought the car knowing that i would be replacing it...might just rebuild it and be done with it....

well, detonation and blowing a coolant seal are two entirely different events, you're saying both happened to you simultaneously? Did you overheat the car? how do you know you detonated? Just trying to help you sort this out, more details will help.

RX7Junkman 11-20-06 06:08 PM

my temps reached 300 degrees.

I have seen 2 N/A motors detonate from being overheated. Too much heat can cause preignition. Its weird opening one of those up.

i would rebuild asap to hopefully limit the parts that need replaced.

i plan on it...had the car 4 months and drove it maybe 10 times...a total of 200miles... :)
winter time is here....i think its time...(streetport... :icon_tup: )

and if an fd overheats one time , its pretty much one time to many, correct???
you could kiss your motor goodbye...correct??

spandy 11-21-06 01:43 AM

Mine only had 27k when it went. Thats what happens when you buy a used car as you never know how it was treated, or how well it was put together. Shit happens, I'm not upset about it.

BUT, it will have a new motor soon, and it will be treated properly, and it will last longer than 27k miles. Fuckin better

Everyday that you own an FD, drop 20-30 bucks in the glove box....maybe you will get lucky and always have enough to pay for broken shit

silverTRD 11-21-06 01:28 PM

^lol^ thats a new one i have'nt heard before

tdazmansFD 11-21-06 02:07 PM

Just put it in the bank.
You know, I'm a true believer of keeping spare funds availble for these cars for the obvious reasons. Sorry to hear. Unfortunately it's such a common thing I sometimes wonder why I even bother with it you know? Good luck with it!though!
