How tall are you?? Comfortable?

Just a quick simple thread on how tall are you and how comfortable you feel in your rx-7. I'm 6 feet tall myself and personally I find it hard to drive comfortablly. My legs are too close the the steering wheel and I can't do a toe/heel/toe because my legs are lanky. Considering upgrading to some recaros to lower my seat a little bit. What do you guys think?

Im 6' also and im a little cramped in my fc, same deal with knees hitting the wheel. never tried that heal toe thing cause I dont drive down mountains at 90+ regularly.

93silverbullet 10-10-05 02:02 PM

I'm 6'4" and the FD fits like a glove... literally! :p:

X9_RXSiete 10-10-05 02:10 PM

Hahaha...I'm 6 ft...300+lbs...and when i tell you a brotha just barely fits I ain't F*ckin around!!! I been wanting to find some lower seats too...I bought a MOMO steering wheel which helped a looooot with the kness hitting the wheel...but Heel/Toe is impossible in that lil thing...I'm no Touge drifter by any means...but every once in a while i track the car and doing a decent burnout is pretty hard with size 13's, lol. I'm probably going to get a Line Lock for it...even tho it's the lazy man's way of doing it...but sh$t...I gotta do what I gotta do...

OneRotor 10-10-05 02:13 PM

6'4, 184 and it's an acrobatic act getting in and out of my FB, but once i'm in my only complaint is a lack of headroom.

Hellspawn 10-10-05 02:22 PM

6'1 1/2" 178 and I find it to be comfortable, of course if you go on a 2+ hour drive I feel it in my back when I get out, but that's due to the seats.

Careful with aftermarket seats, nearly ALL of them except I think the Bride Lowmax I think they are called sit HIGHER than the stock seats. I had to remove the upholstery and shaved 2-3inches off of the foam cushion to fit with a helmet. Seats are still plenty comfortable, but the bolsters squeeze you a bit more, not sure if they would still be comfortable if I had bigger than my 32 waist.

NuTbAgSaN 10-10-05 02:27 PM

im 6`2 and it feels great...the wheel is a lil close i guess...otherwise fine. but i do prefer a more cozy fit

but in my fc theres more than enough room.

Juan 10-10-05 02:38 PM

6' 3" and ~180 lbs. The car fits like a glove. Since I have a touring model, my only complaint is lack of headroom with the stock seats. Side mount seats will drop you to the ground but are more expensive than bottom mount seats. You can shave the seat like Hellspawn said to get a little more headroom. I can also "heel toe" with the stock steering wheel, seats and pedals. I use the side of my shoe to tap the gas pedal while braking. It works just just as well and I can downshift perfectly every into every gear including first.

payne 10-10-05 02:43 PM

6' 3" and 195.

I am a motivated fit...

When I race, I have to recline the seat and squat down... not cool.

What seats give a drop? I have no problems bolting my seat to the floor.

damn... you guys are all tall!!~~ shit I'm just 5' 8" and wish I was about 6'.... damn... it probably because I'm asian~~~ hhahahahahah

mazdagirl81 10-10-05 02:51 PM

5'1" (& a 1/2) i can barely see over the steering wheel. i have to put the seat so far forward, i could easily have someone sitting comfortably in the back (on the bin) with their feet on the floor.

akiratdk 10-10-05 02:53 PM

5' 8" and 140 lbs..... I think this car is the ideal size for me.... made just for me!!!!!!!!!! so it feels real good.

What's a line lock?

Yah, i'm glad (or sad) to hear that i'm not the only person with this problem. Planning to get a steering wheel too, but I'm kinda worried about the no airbag part of it. So you say recaros ends up being higher than stock seats?! That's no good!!!

Haha, I know how ya feel man, i'm reading all of these posts and am thinking to myself. . ."damn!"

I'm 5'9'' 197lbs. The car fits me very nice (not the other way around ;) )

Watch out that's really dangerous with the old single stage air bags. If I were you I would put an aftermarket wheel on and a four point harness to be safe.

afgmoto1978 10-10-05 03:11 PM

6' foot 240lbs here. I got some stumps for legs so my hands always run into them. Planing on getting a 340mm D wheel and non adjustable side mount seats soon. I got the Widefoot pedal attachment and it helped a lot. I can do side step heel/toe now. My legs cramp up after 2 hours in the seat.

Fits like gloove.

TwinTurbo'D 10-10-05 03:19 PM

im 5'11" 140 lbs and its comfortable with me :)

RotorJoe 10-10-05 03:22 PM

6'0", I fit no problem. The seat still has room to move back, heel to toe is no problem either.

MrRx 10-10-05 03:53 PM

6'1" 170lb With my seats I have little to no headroom, but I still love my FD

yuichiror 10-10-05 04:08 PM

I'm 5' 11" 220lbs. My legs aren't really that long, so I don't have to move the seat all the way back(and no issues with the steering wheel) and I recline the seat back so I have plent of headroom. I drove my FD from Memphis to Hampton( think near Va Beach) and my back had no problems. My only issue is that the previous owner put lowering springs in the front of the car, so getting out of the car is a PITA!

kuroi FD 10-10-05 04:40 PM

6' 4'' and barely fit, if i sit up strait my head touches. i wish someone would make decently priced seat rails to lower the damn seats.

RE-Amemiya 10-10-05 04:57 PM

5'11" 150lbs. No problem with space at all...except when I have my 'fro.

If you pull the seat and take a look, the rails are prettymuch as low as they could go. I doubt you could gain more than 1/2-1" bolting directly to the floor.

teflon 10-10-05 06:55 PM

I guess it'll have to be non adjustable seats bolted straight to the ground. Anyone know where to find them? =D

93Efini 10-10-05 07:09 PM

6'3" only problem is knees hitting the steering wheel and e-brake when getting in and out

RidicilousRx7 10-10-05 07:17 PM

6'1 250lbs = the reason im not driving a fd. way to friggin cramped for me. knees r hitting the wheel so i have to have the seat all the way back when i drive my friends and i dont like that at all since i like my knees bent when driving , dissapointed ...

APEXL8T 10-10-05 07:33 PM

I read some where on the design of the FD that they took into consideration the "average male" was 5' 10 165 in the thought process.
Now I wish (I knew where that was.

Hey how do you big footed guys heel toe? Geeez.

rotoober 10-10-05 07:37 PM

6'3" 200 and my knee hits the wheel when I brake. I sat in a fd with small steering wheel while at Rick's and it helped a ton! I've been looking for a jdm fd wheel that keeps the cruise and airbag but is smalled diameter. Does anybody know if such a thing exists? The enfini wheel is the same diameter. If not I'll go aftermarket and put in the cruise like Gfelber did. To wear a helmet I had to shave some foam from the bottom cushion, but now the side bolsters squeeze my butt cheeks together like an 18 year old his first night in jail!
btw I've got a touring with sunroof...

Rx7_Nut13B 10-10-05 07:41 PM

I think i have everone beat, I am 6,6 195 pounds and have all the gens

1st gen - Pretty Tite
2nd gen - Decent, Have a Momo wheel, smaller
3rd gen - Really Tite, But it is a 3rd gen Live with it!!!

FLA94FD 10-10-05 10:44 PM

5'9" and while I could sit closer I'm one or to clicks from all the way back with the seat slightly reclined.

t-von 10-11-05 12:33 AM

6ft 210lbs broad shoulders I fit just fine. :D

BobfisH 10-11-05 12:56 AM

im 6'4 and i love the way i fit in my FD - if i stop i cant sit comfortably with the handbrake on (it gets in the way of my knee) but driving the car is great

its a 92 JDM import.

Ive heard if i get the UK spec seat runners they are a little longer and ill be able to move my seat back further...i dont need to but it might be something you guys might want to try if you have trouble fitting - although the US spec runners might be longer than the JDM ones too.

jayk 10-11-05 01:46 AM

6' 3" and I fit fine, with a helmet it will rub the ceiling a little but removing some padding under the seat helped. I can also heel-and-toe no problem, and thats actually using my heel and toe, not the side-stepping technique I have to do in my audi.

Addict 10-11-05 09:53 AM

6' 220lbs, in a touring. I fit fine, driven 5 hours trips in it comfy, but have *no* extra room. To get a helmet in there I'm thinking of bolting the stocker to the floor (don't want to go to a harness with a racing seat on the street), removing padding(gonna squeeze a little), and putting a smaller steering wheel in(for extra knee room).

teflon 10-11-05 11:46 AM

How do you guys shave some of the foam out without changing the integrity of the seats? Would the leather sag and wrinkle a lot more because of the loss foam? Also which steering wheel do you guys recommend?

i can imagine you right now and i think its the most cutest thing..one of my friends has an is300 and she's like 5'2 and when your driving next to her, she looks like a little kid driving cause all you see is her head..i think its soo cute..

i think its pretty sexy too ;) lol

Meiogirl 10-11-05 11:53 AM

i'm 5'3 140lbs. My legs are longer than avg so I don't have to sit right at the wheel but do wish I had about 3 more inches to see the hood of the car.

jayk 10-11-05 11:58 AM

It does seem to cause wrinkling, but no sagging yet. My drivers seat suddenly looks alot worse than my passenger seat. I'm not positive its from removing the foam though. I had a plan to put an inner tube under the seat so I could pump it up when I wasn't wearing a helmet. Naturally I haven't done it yet...

twinturborx7pete 10-11-05 02:17 PM

6'1 180lbs.. no problems fitting, have plenty of headroom, knee room, heal toe is no problem. Have a good amount i can back the seat up too. When i autocross i actually moe the seat forward and still have plenty of helmet clearance. Guess it all has to do with your actual body configuration, rather than actual height.. ie arm length, leg length.

ediddy22 10-11-05 02:19 PM

I'm fucking tall

I'm 6'3 and I have the seat all the way back and my knees are up there but I deal with it because it's worth it.

24seven 10-11-05 04:40 PM

5'10" 155lbs - The car fits me absolutely perfectly. Wouldn't change a thing.

charlies7 10-11-05 04:48 PM

i believe i have you all beat 6'5 but i have a sparco steering wheel. I weigh about 190 and i fit comfortably.

RX7-2JOCK 10-11-05 04:51 PM

5'9 210lbs, no problems!!

i wanted to get an aftermarket steering wheel, but was concerned about losing the airbag. i never thought about getting rid of the airbag to prevent injury.

holy shit, how do you fit??

im like 5'9 and i feel like im stuffed in the car..although i like to sit tucked in the seat so people think im a midget when they see me driving the car..then i get out and im taller than them and they're like oooo...lol

Careful about thinking side mounted seats will drop you down. If you use any kind of slider mount on the factory holes your seat will raise. Mazda did a good job of molding the seat bottom down between the rails

ppl if you are uncomfortable you need a aftermarket wheel...trust me

charlies7 10-11-05 10:23 PM

i tried getting a pic of my interior but im retarded and cant figure ot how to put it on here

teflon 10-12-05 01:52 PM

The diameter of the stock wheel is about 14 inches right? How small are aftermarket ones like momo or sparco?
